Find a tuner you TRUST, and ask their advice about Engine Control. Opensource tuning is one option (like RomRaider.com). The advantage is that it is FREE. AccessPort is another good option - it is easier to reflash (marginally compared to opensource). To actually modify the map yourself with AccessPort, you need StreetTuner, which is additional cost above AccessPort. At any rate, it sounds like you will need/use a tuner, so just find out what they are most comfortable with (with input from you of course), and go with that. My 2 cents worth.

yeah man. a good tunner is worth their weight in gold. the accessport is pretty safe but all you can do is stage 1 tune which is barrely worth 700 bucks.

you want a TBE + some sort of EM. if you have doubts about your tuner you may as well go cobb stage 2 map.

stage 1 is for stock vehicles only. namely, stock downpipe and intake, or cobb sf intake, or spt intake (which you don't want).

you can use the spt exhaust fine with it. I have an 06 also, and I didn't notice much difference. Just quicker spool and a tiny more power. I think the gain is about 20hp only.

stage 2 is 3" turbo back catted or not. Generally speaking the OTS cobb map only supports the TBE, and the stock or cobb SF intake, it says so in the notes. On 93gas, powergains are about 40hp over stock. But the real gain is torque, up to 70lb ft. You WILL feel it.

Anything more than that it is no longer "staged" and you'll need protune. Read the cobb map notes if you're thinking about ruing the OTS maps. They are available here:

cobb . wrx sti accessport . map listing

If you decide to get protuned then talk to your tuner about what you want and how to get there.

tks for the reply, i guess i have to buy turbo back not cat back, i just don't wanna too loud. but i saw the map selection, on the stg2, its only require stock intake n turbo back, how about down pipe?

If you want to be cheap then just get a downpipe and use your stock catback. you will lose some top end power but not much. I have a cobb catted dp and i put 273/293 on 93 octane. Your mileage may vary

the downpipe is part of the turbo back. turbo back minus dowpipe becomes a cat back. cat back minus the mid pipe becomes axle back.

I have to say the cobb TBE is not as loud as some of the others, but it is damn loud compared to stock. Don't let people tell you it isn't because they are freaks who can't hear right. they also compare it to ridiculous loud stuff out there. Loud is relative.

but regardless, you want the full tbe. why? because what's the point if you're not gaining power, may as well just do stage 1. remember the cobb tbe is rather pricy. You don't have to get that one. any 3" tbe will do.

the ap is worth it if you want to run the cobb maps and don't have a trusted reputable tuner nearby. if you find a good tuner that tunes open source, you can go for that.

don't worry about the divorced vs bellmouth. Just do a search on "divorced vs bellmouth" and you'll see everybody argues for what they have . IMO, doesn't matter. IMO externaly gated routed back into the exhaust is the right answer for both power and keeping your hearing.

IMO OTS maps are crap and should be used as a temporary stepping stone to a protune. You didn't buy a Kia, don't half ass the most important modification to your car.
