Default How to data log

I want to log my car. I see some of you doing it and posting your logs. I wanna know how exactly to do it. I understand I need some Enginuity software, which I downloaded. Can I use the cable from AP to connect to computer? What else do I need and what steps to take? And also, what to look out for. If someone could do a small write-up that would be super. Thx.

How to data log, Enginuity or ecuExplorer?

There is some good info in the FAQ on romraider.com and the link to scoobymods in the first couple of posts in the above thread.

Well I've searched all through that post and didn't find answers on how to get started.
My problems are:
1. I'm not sure if I can pull it off with the cable that comes with AP v2 that I have. It's connecting thru USB into laptop.
2. I've installed ecuexplorer and it's a version from 2005 (Build 3.0.25), I couldn't find anything newer is it even supposed to work with MY2007? Also it reads as there's only COM4 port on my laptop. Then, it doesn't log automatically. I thought I have to turn on the defroster but that doesn't work either
3. Enginuity doesn't even install on Vista. Should I try XP laptop?

Very noob and frustrated right now...guess too spoiled with stuff that just plug-n-play but I tried hard reading up on what could be done, and trying various things...Thx

Read the link below and make sure your ECU is compatiable; more than likely it is.

RomRaider - Open Source ECU Tools | Documentation / Supported ECU Revision List

If you want to log the best thing is to buy a Tactrix cable and use Enginuity. On the RomRaider forum you can also find a spreadsheet that helps make sense of the data you are logging with plots and graphs.

RomRaider • View topic - Spreadsheet to import and graph log files

My next piece of advice is read, read, read...

How's a tactrix cable different than that of the one that comes with AP? Does it have something different than USB on the other end? I looked on tactrix and still don't understand.

The tactrix cable has a device in it that allows you to read and flash the rom on your ecu. You can use your ap cable to log, you just cannot read the rom(map) or flash new rom on the ecu, because it is lacking the chip that is in the tactrix cable.

Either program should work. You have to configure them to read the com port of your AP cable's usb. I have a v1 AP cable that I've used with ecuExplorer, but it's serial not usb.

I was under the impression that the AP. V2 cable doesn't work for logging or do anything apart from the use on the ap. I'm i wrong

Im with ^. Last I heard, the AP cable couldnt be used, but maybe there's been new developments.

Enginuity most definitely works on Vista. I know cause that's the only way Ive ever used it. There is some kind of special thing you have to do to get it to install though. I cant remember what it is.

I know for a fact that you can log using ecuexplorer with the accessport v1 cable. I dont know about the v2 cable though.
