I wonder if this has anything to do with the fact that alot of people are jumping ship from AP's and going to open source since they dont want to spend 600 for one AP and then 700 for the new version when they can do everything for free with opensource.

I believe it has more to do with wanting a product that can be supported on the market. The new AccessPORT is a much more stable and functional part. If people would like to have a better part that can be supported and covered easier, why not offer the program?

Eventually support for the original AccessPORT will have to be stopped. that could provide some very difficult times for an AccessPORT user.

Also, this is an opportunity to get a more reliable and better overall part out on market.

It just doesn't make sense to me. I bought my AP v1 used for $300. Even if they give me a $200 credit, I'll still be paying $300 (old AP) + $500 (new AP) for a grand total of $800 for an AP. For people that bought their v1 AP new, it's an even worse equation.

And such is life when dealing with technology. Do you see masses of people screaming to Bill Gates and Steve Jobs when their 2 month old "top-of-the-line" computer has just been replaced by something newer, better, faster and with more support?

It's nice of COBB to even offer a buy back program.

This is good news. I might have to jump on this, I was thinking of upgrading to a new accessport.

Will my tuner be able to load my map into my new accessport. Or can I just pull that map off my old AP and put on my new AP? Is the AP manager the same from old to new?
Do I have to unmarry my old AP before sending it back to Cobb? I can't have any downtime with my car since it is my daily driver.

I've got an old AP and its been nothing but perfect for me and i also got it for 350 i would never pay 700 bucks for a new one when this one works just fine.

My V1 collects dust except for those rare occasions that I flash a new base map I've made a bunch of changes to.

Sounds fishy. Why would cobb want a working Old APort other than to resell it? Maybe use the same chipset, update the firmware, the interface and resell it as the NEW AP, now thats a good marketing move!!!

Why would they want a broken one and give you 200 for it.

FlyinbySTI.

Unfortunately you would need you tuenr to convert the maps you have into the new APM format. that si the format compatable with the current AccessPORT.

The AccessPORT would need to be un-installed prior to sending the part in.

Dreamvang,

i'm not sure why you would think Cobb tuning operates like that. The hardware in the new AccessPORT is completely different than the hardware in the old Accessport (serial connections, diffirent screen, etc). My above quote is accurate.

I think this is a great opportunity for AP v1 users to upgrade. I think it's smart business for Cobb to provide this to their users. Props!
