It is a great move, I have asked them so many times to offer this. Finally they do! Well, I believe I can sell my AP Ver1 with the protune map and meth map for more than $200. If I could get almost 400 for my used ap, I would jump and buy an AP ver2 from a vendor.

it's a nice gesture by cobb, but like chris said, you can easily sell your version 1 ap for more than $200 and then just buy a version 2. i don't plan on upgrading. my ap justs sits in its box. if i were to get the version 2, it would just sit in the box too.

^ yup . . . the only time I've ever used mine, well it was my tuner. He tuned, I shoved in glovebox, it stayed.

The only added feature I like with the new one is the addition of launch control. But I don't see why 700.00 is worth that.

I'll just do it the old fashion way.

I have the v2. Never had the v1. Mine also sits in a box. The only time I used it other than flashing a map, was going to FL to use the gas mileage feature.. that didnt work.

Think of how much Cobb put into the accessport just in development and manufacturing the units!!! I think $6-700 is a steal!!!

seems pretty reasonable to me. If you don't like it don't buy it. There are plenty of other people out there that didn't have a problem spending the money. And the ones that did went another route.

Half the stuff you buy for your car may be considered to expensive. How much did the limited wing and trunk cost you?

Do you see what im trying to say?

Do you guys remember way back when the WRX 1st came to US in mid 01? Only EM option was a piggyback called the Unichip. I paid $785 when it 1st came out with a promise of "FREE" staged map upgrades as they came out to original purchaser for "LIFE". Well, by very late 03 Txs came out w/Utec and shorly after my td04 failed at ST.3 upgrades, I drove down to MD smoking turbo and all and had my unichip flashed for stage4+tmic by Phil personally. Shortly thereafter, about 2mos later, TurboXS announced there flash cable was broken and they were not gonna look at replacing it. Came right out on the forums and said they would no longer honor the promise of free map flashes, and even went on to offer Original Unichip purchasers $250 off a Utec if they switched. Utec had all kinds of software problems initially(for 2years) and I stuck w/ the u-chip. I never had a problem for 40k miles of running u-chip staged maps. My bugeye put down 275whp w/tmic,pinks and VF30 on a "phil" base map. Never a hiccup.
I still have the damn thing because I would not sell it for $200-300 dollars. I'll wait til I can buy a low mileage 02 bugeye in the future as a beater work car.
Cobb is trying to get the AP1's out of circulation as they eat into profit from sales of new AP and they are also overwhelmed by newbs calling and e-mail them w/ questions about a discontinued product. Consider yourselves lucky they have been as nice about the AP2 transition as they have been. I know TXS lost many hundreds of loyal customers because of how they handled the elimination of a previous gen. of EM. Hell, most unichip users disgruntled at txs looked toward Cobb's offering of the AP 1 as a middle finger in TXS's face. Cobb is handling this much better than TXS ever did. I'm sure though if the AP 1 had firmware updates, Cobb would eventually send a virus(don't know how else to put it) to fry the old AP's to eliminate something that is keeping them from making tens of thousands of $. Because of the U-chip fiasco, I came close to buying a Hydra for my STi knowing that someday soon the AP2 will be obsolete and pushed out of the market. Expect it people. Don't be naive.

How many other ways of reprograming the FI are there?

And I know is a silly comparison, but PowerCommander makes about the same product for bikes for $330; I wonder how much profit is really going to these companies making product such as the Accessport & PowerCommander

I'm trying to get a AP2 on Ebay but everytime I think I'm about to get it for ~$400, someone else jumps in and hikes the price up

Patience is a virtue

There is a very good reason to do this, especially for STI owners. Due to the way the version 1 AP works, the map files have a very limited file capacity. We found this out the hard way while Jorge was tuning our 04 sti with a version 1 AP. After tuning fuel boost and timing we ran out of room on the map and could not continue to modify the settings of the ECU. We couldn't even touch AVCS to try to get more power. Jorge said we were leaving an estimated 30-40 wtq on the table due to the limitations of the V1 AP.

The V2 AP does not suffer this same problem allowing tuners the ability to Protune all aspects of the ECU without file size limitations. So, you may want to ask your tuner, for those of you who are protuned, if they have run into the limits yet with your V1AP and if more power is available with the V2 AP.

Tony
