I though the accessport was supost to eliminate the govenor. I just got back from longisland and i just topped out my 05 STi 3 different times. It will not pass 155 mph at al it stays at 6000rpm and 155mph. isnt the access port supost to eliminate the govenor? if not wat can i buy to take this off i need more speed!!!!!

Pretty sure you can remove it with a pro tune and the accessport.
I know there are a few STi's running in open road racing with the AP.

I want to say the top speed is something like 172mph without restriction
after that your looking at gearing changes and lots of horsepower.


If your thing is top speed I'd say get a different car.
172mph just isn't very fast and it is going to take more money than it is worth getting an STi to go faster than that.
The main reason I placed an order for a GT-R was that fact.

If your stuck with the STi and really want to make high speed passes

1. Get a roll cage and fuel cell (most races won't allow you to go faster than 145mph without both)
2. get a FMIC
3. Get a hood without a scoop
4. smooth the air flow under your car as much as possible.
5. slap the tallest wheel tire combo on your car you can while keeping the car as low as possible without @#$%ing your suspension geometry.

FWIW,
years back I read that the hood scoop doesn't take in any more air after 130mph
After reading that,
I taped a ribbon to the inside of my hood scoop at the front and at around that speed the ribbon was blown out of the hood scoop instead of being sucked in.
(not very scientific but it did seem to confirm what I had read)

i'm going to make a wild guess here, but it think that you don't have enough power to go any faster at those speeds. btw, is that an indicated 155 on the speedo, or as measured by a GPS or other calibrated device?

172mph is kind of slow if your doing open road racing or land speed runs of any type.

172mph is just bearly fast enough to make the seperated lane marker lines on the road become one long line

I'm not sure what the O.P. is up to BUT,
removing the speed restriction on any car set at 155mph just to haul ass around town isn't a good idea and I can't see any reasonable person making an effort to drive faster than 155mph on thier way home from work in the U.S.
so my suggestions where based on my personal open road race experiences assuming the guy is doing something similar.

lol id say 172 is up there, like I said its how fast you get there not top end number in any racing thats not in a straight line (ie two identical cars one that goes from 60-170 in 7 seconds vs one that does it in 10, that adds up quick in the lap times)

The dude just wants to crack it wide open every once and a while... what's wrong with that... he's not going to be driving from Florida to California at 170mph. Who said anything about racing, roll cages, etc.....

our cars are drag and gear limited...there is no governor. you're just not making enough power to get up over 155.

Thanks Dad! ... or are you the police? Why do you care to comment? There are lots of people going any ridiculous speed on public roads.
