Default ECU Reset

How long does it usually take for the ECU to be readable by OBD-II after a reset? I just had the car inspected and the short of it is that because the ECU was just reset (clearing my bad O2 sensor code) the OBD-II scanner at the inspection facility couldn't pick up anything(?) The ECU wasn't connecting with the OBD-II? When the car had cats, the O2 sensor CEL would usually come back on about a half a tank to a full tank of gas after I reset the ECU.

I'm not really sure what he was trying to say, but I failed and there has to be a reason because the car passed emissions as well as everything else EXCEPT the OBD-II problem.

Anyone know what I'm talking about?

There "should" be no gap where its readable/unreadable... It should read all the time no matter what. The code clears after a reset, but after driving certain "Drive cycles" (our cars have drive cycles labeled A to H, aka 1- 8) When our cars go through different scenarios, they test certain codes on our cars.

Not being able to read sounds like an electrical problem. Poke your head under the driver side dash and look at obd2 port on the dash and look for loose wires, and obvious damage.

Would it be more of a matter of going through all of the 'drive cycles' before going back to inspection?

The OBD port itself is fine, I got a perfect connection when I plugged in the AP. The green connectors for test mode are fine too.

Good Good. I suspect the one they used at emission's was maybe faulty?

Yes. In order to pass emission's your car must be in "READY" status, pass the visual, and not have any codes pop up. It will have to go through the drive cycles to complete all the tests. If you want, PM your email address and I will give you all the drive cycles so you can pass!
