Default EGT or Aem UEGO

Hey guys I just wanted to find out what would be more worth it, getting an Aem UEGO or an EGT guage or both. I read about how the EGT helps detec knock but is it really that useful? Where as the UEGO can help with tuning and such since I am thinking about getting the new acessport street tuner and tune myself but what do you guys think?

I wouldn't try tuning it yourself. I would just go for an EGT and protune and then you can research tuning and tweak the protune map to learn.

I watch my UEGO gauge at drag strip, not boost. I know my target AFR's. EGT gauge is a very nice tool aswell. That's a tough decision. Comes down to what you're more comfortable with. LC-1 is very nice but pricey when you get all the add ons it is capable of using. Uego or EGT, can't go wrong. Get a good egt as they tend to burn out quickly(prosport).

Innovate LC-1. Your operating AFR is CRUCIAL. You need to be able to keep track of it. Get the LC-1 which you can then log to a laptop. Add a cheap AFR gauge of your choice and re-program the Analog Out on the LC-1 to run the gauge properly even if it was a narrowband gauge. Win.

are you saying to add a cheap AFR guage to the LC-1? The kits on ebay I have been looking at come with everything guage, program etc.

The problem I have is there are tuning shops around Pittsburgh but not very close and I heard the new street tuner software for the acessport is suppose to be alot better, I am still not sure to go that route or not but if i went for a protune they would need an good AFR guage anyway right?

I have been looking at getting a DEFI EGT to compliment my DEFI Boost and oil pressure but if I have a good AFR guage am I ever going to need to refer to that?

Again Thanks for all the comments

If you're going all out, then you could stand to have both an EGT and AFR gauge. EGT doesn't tell you your AFR. It tells you if EGTs are changing. Changing EGTs could be because AFR changed, or timing changed, or... See my point?

Anyway, yeah, get the LC-1 and then get any random AFR gauge (just the gauge, not the gauge/controller plus sensor like a UEGO). You can program the output of the LC-1 to properly run any gauge. So you're looking at $180 for the LC-1 (cable, sensor, software, bung, etc all in one box) plus $20-$80 for the gauge (depending on how fancy you want to go).

Yes, for tuning, EGT is no replacement for AFR.
