Default 07 ecu update from Subaru

Im a noob to the boards and have only had my sti for 6 months or so. So bear with me. Anyways, i got the car and was doing some research on here of what to do and safe ways to do it. I found that people were having issues with their 07's and the tuning on the ecu from the factory. That got me worried so i went to the dealership in the city i live and asked them if this was a problem that Subaru has found and addressed. As it turns out, it is a problem with 07's that were produced roughly before February of 07. I guess the reason that i am writting this long thread is that i made an appointment to have me ecu updated, since it was produced before the date above. So my question is, has anyone else had Subaru update their ecu? Did anyone notice any difference? Did it really fix the problems? I want to get a Cobb Access Port, but my parents arent so "hot" on the idea right now, but that will change. haha. So if anyone has any info to share, please do. Thank you.

I bought my car in July of '07. Don't know the production date off-hand, but it came with the reflash from Subaru and was still a little jerky, especially trying to hold rpm's going down hills, and definitely at low speeds in parking lots. Flashing to Stage 1 made it a lot better, and protuned (just yesterday) at Stage 2 seems infinitely better. At least, my girlfriend says it's completely gone. She used to hate it.

My tuner thinks it's a combination of the tune and something funny in the drivetrain. He confirmed this with another guy's '07 by turning the car off while simulating the problem on his dyno.

If you are worried about the stock tune and its effects on your engine, I would buy an AccessPort immediately. Your '07 motor will tend to run lean and pull timing on the stock tune. Popping a ringland seems to be luck of the draw.

Of course, if your engine blows on the stock tune it's under warranty, but to me it was worth the $600 to not have to deal with a dealership or lose my car for a month.

thanks for the info. Yeah i was afraid that the reflash from Subaru wouldnt fix it, i mean if it wasnt right the first time.... I guess i should just get the AP now so i dont have to stress over it.

Pretty sure this has been covered more times than Randy Moss going for the endzone. Get the accessport, flash to stage 1, no more worries.

Its all good. Use the search button and you will find that 99.9% of topics you may want to start a thread on probably already exist (usually multiple times). Enjoy your 07, go stage 2 once you are ready.. world of difference

If this helps, my dealership (flatironstuning.com) sold me my accessport and warned me beforehand about the stock tune. I think that alone is proof that the stock tune is problematic.
