How much better is it for the latter?

much better. it takes elevation, gas you use, ambient temp, your specific car / mods, etc etc.

I'm only asking this because my tuner said he would give me a map to get me going after I get my FMIC, Fuel pump, Injectors and new TBE fitted until I get to the dyno

oh, if your tuner knows your car, id say its safe until you can go back for a retune.

sounds cool of your tuner,but you should get to the dyno asap and not run your car too hard even with the e-tune with those modsgood luck!

I'll probably load the map to drive home, then let the car sit there until i drive it to dyno day
