Default guages

ok i searched around but really didnt find too much about prosport guages and and some of the specs... im looking to buy my boost guage tonight... im also looking to purchase the pod for it... most likely going for the 3 guage pod that goes where the clock is but if not then the pillar...

my question is has anyone used the prosport guages? prosportguages.com and what is the difference between mechanical boost guage and electrical boost guage? ive seen some prosport guages and heard really good reviews but never seen or here about the funcionality of the boost guage in particular...

A mechanical boost gauge is jsut that, mechanical. The stock STI boost gauge is mechanical. You run a vacuum line from the engine bay to the gauge and the actual pressure/vacuum works against a diaphram that spins the needle.

An electrical boost gauge uses what's called a sending unit. It can be placed in the engine bay or whereever and then you run wire from it to the gauge. As pressure changes, the sending unit changes the voltage in the wires which the gauge converts to movement of the needle.

As for the prosport, I'm sure there's mention of them somewhere. They come up every now and then. I highly reccomend the MadDad Clarity Ultra gauges.

I would reccomend the electrical. (Which the MadDad is) It's easier to fish a wire through the firewall than a vacuum line that can kink or leak.

If you just want a boost gauge, here's the MadDad Ultra:
MadDad(TM) Clarity Ultra Series 60mm Boost(66mm face/60mm mounting) :: MadDad Clarity Ultra :: Gauges/Pods :: Daddy's Sport Compact Performance

MadDad also offers a package deal for a 3-gauge pod:
MadDad(TM) Clarity ULtra Series 60mm 3 Gauge Bundle :: MadDad Clarity Ultra :: Gauges/Pods :: Daddy's Sport Compact Performance

HOw much is yoru budget? If quality is more important than $$, then consider Defi Gauges + Control Pod. That'll cost you lots more than prosport gauges though. But Defi's look OEM (in other words, they don't look out of place or tacked on). Better in fact.

The MadDad gauges are OEM-look also, which is why I reccomend them. Great look, quality, and lower price than the Defis.
