Default CObb AP or TUNE stock ECU?

Hi guys,

I was About get Cobb AP today.. but Dent Sports Garage in Norwood MA
they told me to just tune the stock ECU on Dyno($500 no piggy back ecu needed). They said that its better than getting Ap cuz they custom tune the ECU for my car... and they also told me that I still need to Tune my car even after I get Cobb AP. What do u think guys? what should I do?
Should I just get AP or get it custom tuned?

Does anybody know DENT SPORTS GARAGE in NORWOOD MA?

Are they any good?

Help me out.

Thanks

The COBB AP IS a reflash for the stock ECU... You only need custon tunes if you have an aftermarket intake or are going past stage 2/ using race gas. It plugs in under the steering wheel like a USB, no piggybacks at all. Tuners custom tune your car VIA the COBB AP, not sure what those guys were talking about....i tuned mine in the parking lot at my school lol.

Sounds like they are using OpenSource tools to custom tune your car. It costs them 0$ to use this software.

500$ sounds like the cost to custom tune your car regardless of which EM software they use.

In order to tune your car using an AP, you would have to buy an AP (695$) AND 500$ to custom tune your car.

right now I have catless Downpipe and catback exhaust and also an spt intake.
So I have to run stage 2 map if I get the cobb AP.
what they were saying is that I dont need to get cobb Ap..(they are not tuning AP) they just tune my stock ECU on dyno and told me I would get around 300whp with my mods.

The only problem with open source. Is theres no options, you get what you get. You cant revert back to stock to go to the dealer, you cant do live data logging. No HUGE company standing behind their product. And you are using you're ecu's memory which is limited to only 50 something flashs I belive. IMO, the accessport is a no brainer. The inital cost isn't easy but it's worth every penny in my opinion. Don't get you're self stuck with a tune that might not even be that good. Besides why would thousands and thousands of people be running a product that isn't that good. It's just tried and true, no bs.

All it takes is a laptop and 80$ cable. Although it's not as convenient as an AP, you CAN flash back at anytime. Of course this is only convenient and cheaper IF you have a laptop.

Live data logging? You can do this with OpenSource tools.

The AP uses the same 'memory' as OpenSource tools do. Sure an AP has 'realtime' maps, but you still have to flash a 'basemap' initially.

As for the number of flashes, that's yet to be determined. The key number has always been 100.

I'm not trying to say one is better than the other. It's personal preference. I just wanted to clear a few things up.

For only $200 more you wouldn't need to ask this question. Plus $500 only gets a reflash where with the Accessport you have something in your hand to justify the costs. But I'm sure a custom tune on your car would make it run better than the AP. So I guess its up to you.

Im at at least 100 flashes now. Ill let you guys know when it lets go...

And to confirm, yes you can flash back to stock, yes you can datalog, and yes you can get some support through the forums. Thing is, you dont have anybody who's job it is to make your stuff work.

I hope like hell they can get realtime tunability working before my flash memory starts f'in up.

I have nothing bad to say about DSG. A great group pf guys, and an excellent shop.

However, I would go the AP route.

You can flash stage 2 and be all set.

Then later down the line if you wanted to go bigger with the correct supporting mods- I would go to DSG without hesistaton and have them tune you.
