Default Getting P0244, logs inside..

My STi has an aftermarket turbo and an AP protune by a protuner, but I've been having some problems. I get a P0244 occasionally when doing 4th or 5th gear pulls.. The tuner gave me a tweaked map to help curb the issues, which basically made the problem happen less frequently, but it still happens. I have two logs here.. one is an earlier set of logs after an ECU reset while the car was learning back up to normal levels. The second log contains a few more runs later which eventually lead to a CEL on a 4th gear pull. I included a note for each dataset to help identify what I was doing... and I've also got some before/after data for each pull.

I am a novice when it comes to tuning and interpreting datalogs, so any general or specific insight into what is happening here would be greatly appreciated. I think I am seeing a decent amount of knock, which is obviously not good, but that doesn't really explain my overboost.

Also, if I should log other variables, let me know..

I have an email into my tuner as well, but I wanted to get some outside advice as well....

Thanks.

BTW, you can see a comprehensive list of my mods on the link in my sig if that is of any importance here.

I can't help you diagnose the problem but I can tell you the car is knocking because you have several point in your logs of -2 or -4 FBKC. You should probably just get it retuned. the new tune should solve the knock and the overboost problem.

I noticed that as well... is this something that normally occurs during the "learning"? Or even at this point just after a reset, is knock an indication of a bad tune??

This is a Wastegate control solenoid valve malfunction (high input).

I had this before with stage 1 and the Typhoon. It was a 5th gear, WOT in 42 degrees which is pretty cold for NorCal.

Maybe you should look into modifying the wastegate or going EWG.

I'm sure our wastegate experts can chime in on this.

I have a Tial 44mm dumping to atmosphere.. I've logged the WGDC, and it peaks at around 40% at WOT in a high gear. Also, FWIW, the 100octane map I have on the car from the same tuner during the same tuning session does not have this problem.

looking at the manual it says:
DTC P0244 TURBO/SUPER CHARGER WASTEGATE SOLENOID "A" RANGE/PERFORMANCE

Does your car drive fine with the code on? starts, idle, etc.

Was there any other code when you pulled them up?

Car drives fine with the code on. It starts and idles and drives around fine. The code only comes on under certain conditions at the peak of a high gear pull.

I used the AP to pull up the code, which probably only displays one code, but I only saw one code. I use enginuity for data logging which doesn't pull codes.. is there something else I should use for that?

Theres a couple that read codes.

Some are more successful than others, just gotta try them all!

ecuExplorer- • Index page
Scan Tech - The Aktive Matrix - Log in

you have to have the tactrix cable though

Anyway, the manual says that this code usually pops up with other codes. And the fix is ... "to replace the wastegate control solenoid valve"

how much are you boosting?

I am at around 20 psi in low gears and hitting 23 in higher gears. This is on a revised map my tuner gave me after I started having this problem last year. Before, I was hitting low 20's in all gears, and 24 in high gears. I'm on a 20G.. Also, I think my boost gauge is a bit optimistic

Brian, we're reviewing the logs. The knock is probably the result of bad fuel (Chicago winter mix certainly isn't what it was tuned on).

We'll contact you via email.
