Default Cobb AP question

im thinking of buying an sti in the near future...
theres one i saw and still looking at but one thing worries me...

ive heard and read that with the Cobb AP, once its connected/tuned with one car you cant use it on another car...
you have to send it back and get it unmarried or something like that...

well, the car im looking at had one but is being sold with out it...

my question is: if i get this car, the seller doesnt have or doesnt give me the original AP that he/she had....will i be able to connect another one with no problems or the ECU wont recognize it?

please excuse the Q if its been answered before but ive searched around but havent seen the answer...

thanks in advance

The original AP holder will need to unmarry the AP from the car to use it on another car. Once the AP is unmarried you will be able to connect another unmarried AP to and use it on that car.

You'll be able to buy yourself a new AP and use it on your car.

The owner was hopefully smart enought to unmarry the AP before he sold it. That puts the ECU back to it's stock state. Then you can buy another AP and it should install just fine.

Just ask the seller if he unmarried it from the car. If so you should be good to go. Go buy yourself another one and hook it up just like new.

If I unmarry my AP from the car, I know the ECU goes back to stock. BUT, if I unmarry the AP, does my TUNE stay on the AP? What I'm asking is: Can I put the tune back on it AFTER I unmarry the AP? I'm thinking about selling and I may need the extra cash from the AP, but if they decide not to buy the car, can I put the tune back on it?

Thanks!!!

yea it stays on the accessport. im pretty sure the only way to delete a map off the accessport is by hooking it up to your pc and using the AP software

What Westi said. It will stay on there, no worries.

However I did not know you could get a totally new AP and hook it up to a car that hasn't been unmarried and use it like the car never had a map loaded on it. News to me.

If an ap is installed on an ecu then unmarried. If i plug it into mine will the stock peramiters(stock map) from the first install still be on it from the original car? FOr example if i buy an ap that was from an unmarried 07 and i have an 05? Also how do you know if it is unmarried for sure? Thanks
