Default Dissapointed after Protune

I was Protuned on Dec 1. I posted up my Dyno pic's here. The tuner squeezed out 19 whp more and got my torque to hold higher longer. When me and the tuner when for a drive the car did not feel that much different. My thought was maybe I was just numb. The only was to test it was to race my buddy's fox body mustang and my buddy's srt-4. I used to beat the fox body(afr head's,1.7 roller rockers, trick flow intake, cam, bbk headers, msd ign, pulley kit, forged pistons)from a roll I would pull slighty every gear on the cobb ots map. I raced him this weekend pulled in 3rd and thats it.

I raced my buddy's srt-4 last night(injen intake, boost controller, msd wires,3inch o2 housing,3 in downpipe, stock cat back, 17 psi hold)on the cobb ots map he ran the best. It was a tug of war match I made little pulls he made little pulls. Probably one of the funnest races I have had. After the tune the races were no different.

I dont know whats going on, but I am not happy. I would almost think the tuned map was never saved. I am going to reload the tuned map he gave me to see how the car reacts. I spoke to the tuner and we are going to take a drive and datalog. He tuned it in third and it runs good in third. In fourth and fifth the car just doesn't make pulls at all. It feels like its running good though. For you tuners out there, whats your impression.

Bring it back to the tuner. Who tuned it?

Sounds kinda normal to me.

ProTUNES will crank up your early torque. This will make no difference in your street races since, when you race, you spend most of the time above 5500rpms. You probably got an extra 10whp in that RPM range. That isn't going to make much of a difference in your street races. It will give you about 0.1 in the 1/4 mile ... and heck, lets be real here ... that amount of time can easily be negated or overcome by driving style along.

The stock turbo is basically just horrible in the RPM range where we really want an improvement, IMHO.

I was not expecting to rape them both. Just a consistent slow steady pull away gear through gear. I would have to assume at this point that I have no hp gain in 4th thru 6. And thats where 19whp should really shine. Well, I will see what the datalogs' say the car is doing. I could possibly be pulling some timing in higher gears. But I can sit here all day and come up with guesses. What gets me is, I have learned a butt load of knowledge of this car threw this website and others. So I consider myself quite knowledgeable. But I can figure out how a tune can work great in one gear and not in all.

My buddy with the srt-4 says on there forums they recommend both a protune and a street tune. That some people actually ran great on the dyno but not as well on the street. Not sure if this is true or applies to STI's. My only assumption on that is there is a greater load on the street because the weight of the car as per the dyno having a lighter load. But I really do not know crap about dyno's so I probably just sounded like a moron.

After

Ignore the afr its not accurate. The final tune was around 11.8 afr.

It's true, I just wish they would have given us something similar to what the EVO crew got from the factory. Then if that was the case beating up on evo's wouldn't be quite as fun, gotta love busting those big heads of theirs haha.

I say we create a subaru turbo upgrade fund. If I can get everyone on this forum to donate me $1. I could have a decent turbo kit by the end of the month. So who's up for it. I would be glad to donate a dollar to the next person's kit.

I know Im two months late on this topic but I kind of have the same problem... I run a utec and even though Ive had gains in the Hp and Tq areas my car feels slower. I didnt have a O2 gauge till to today so the tune wasn't that great even though Im happy with it. Im planning on getting it re-tuned soon... Im not even hitting 10 lbs of boost! Im tired of getting waxed by cameros and stangs!

according to the laws of economics, that would never work lol...everyone would want to get something back and think about the fact that not everyone would be willing to donate
