Default Preparation for protune

I know the basics, but is there anything to look out for before a protune. I have a cobb dp and heat shield. Is it a good idea to have the heat shield off so the tuner can access the bung. Any help appreciated. I searched but if a protune prep link exists point me in the right direction. Thanks

J

I found that one. Thanks. Any thoughts on the heat shield?

I am not sure how most tuners do it... but during my tune no sensors were placed anywhere near the heat shield. I had it installed before I arrived and it was never messed with.

The prep stuff is kinda worthless for a new car if you ask me. Just use your brain. Don't bring in a car in piss poor condition. A tuner is going to do what they do best... put your car on a dyno, hook up a computer, and get down and dirty. I have not hear much about removing the heat shield. 99% of the people on these boards go to their tune with all the parts installed (in my case tbe, cai, fuel pump, heat shield) and leave with a tuned car that runs great.

Side note: Tuners love to tune for numbers. A heat shield only contributes to higher numbers, so they would probably prefer to leave it on to avoid heat soak.

Most tuners will put the 02 sensor on the back of the tailpipe, but this can vary. If your only mod is an exhaust, then I would just make sure you don't have any exhaust leaks. For future reference when you start to add more parts, I would perform a boost leak test as well prior to any tuning. Plus if you haven't considered it, I would get a race gas tune or race gas mixed with pump. Good luck!

I wonder how accurate that a/f off the tail pipe is if you have a cat. Because arent they suppose to burn of some of the unburnt fuel in the exhaust so would that make your car seem leaneer than what it is?

How many of you are getting compression and leak down tests done before a protune like they suggest? It is a great idea but I'm not showing any signs of problems.

Better safe than sorry? Thanks.

I'd do a compression test. If the numbers are consistent then I don't see any reason to get a leak down.
