Unhappy 06 STi Key.. Problem Programing!?

i went to the local suby dealer today to get a spare key for my 06 sti.
i wanted the blue key with 'sti' on it because im sick of the plain ol black key

they cut the key and all but then they had to program it.. they were not able to and im not sure why.. they said they didnt have the code or something

with the new key, the car would start... but then die right away...

when i bought the car i never got that white slip of paper on my keys with the secerity code.

i dont know what to do?!?! someone please help
how do i get a spare key for my sti

any input would be great

Your STi key has a chip in it. The new Blue one does not. Therefore, the sensor in your old key can not be read and your new key, without the chip, signals there is not a real key and shuts your car off.

Everybody pretty much knows this. I can't believe Subaru cut that key and expected it to actually work.

The blue one will only work in an '04, which did not have the immobilizer.

Your dealer would have to be absolutely clueless to sell you that key and think it would work.

If you really need a spare key, be prepared to pay $$$ for one that has the chip.

do any of the blue keys have the chip? no.

If you want to hack up one of your other keys, you can remove the chip, tape it inside your steering column and use the blue key. But that pretty well defeats the purpose of the immobilizer. And it would suck to be stuck somewhere and have your car not start if the chip came loose, got lost, whatever.
