IWSTI Addict since: Nov 2006 Trader Rating: (1) | I have just started driving an STI. The other day I was on a bit of an uphill incline leaving a street light . there was a 90 degree left right away. I left pretty hard, and by the time I had it straightened out it was time to hit second. Just about when I shifted there was a loud clunk sound, almost like something broke. It was a snapping/clunking sound, sort of like the sound when the suspension bottoms out when hitting a pot hole; or like a disk brake grabbing hard for a split second. Anyway there was nothing broken on the car and I was just wondering what it was, it might haVE been a sloppy shift ? Is there traction control on the 04 sti is that waht the sound was ? thanks for any help and any flaming I probably deserve it ! This ad is not endorsed by this member. | Junior STI Driver | In a RWD or FWD car, under the same conditions you would chirp the tires. In the STi you have so much grip that the shock is absorbed by the drivetrain. This causes the clunk. Long-term, repeatedly doing this will probably not be good. However, there's probably nothing wrong with your car. Just wait a split-second before going into second. Let the weight of the car shift forward for an instant, shift, release the clutch and drop the hammer. |

IWSTI Addict since: Nov 2006 Trader Rating: (1) | Thanks for the replies I am not sure even what the dcdd is. The car came to me as a salvage project and I have the owners manual on order from subaru. So I really dont know much about the car such as the differential adjustments between front and rear or even how to set the shift light. I should have the manual by next week. Whats the difference between lock and two clicks below ? I think it is set in the middle of the range. thanks again This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. |
