I am able to get the launch part down, but once I start spinning I am confused should I immediately shift to 2nd. If I do immediately shift I have to let off the gas, and result in a slower 60ft. Should I just flat foot to second? I guess I might as well practice, but I was hoping for some advice before I go again.

no feather it until rpms match speed, it wont spin but for a few seconds then pull into 2nd gear. 5,500 works good and dont just sidestep the clutch or you'll be buying a new one let it out fast but with you in control

i read on the boards "lift your foot like you just stepped in Poo" and thats about as fast as you pull it up.

its hard, my fastest 60' was 1.86 or something. i just get nervous practicing on my baby.

So far for me slipping the clutch works the best IMO.

One thing I learned about getting good starts in motorcycle racing is to hold a constant RPM rather than blipping the throttle. This transfers to cars well. If you Blip you have less control over exactly what RPM you will be in when the light goes green or the flag falls. The idea is to start in such a way that you are in the meat of the cars powerband or optimum (rpms) pulling range when the clutch is fully released, all the while not slipping or riding the plates too long; these are street clutches and most of us would like to get some time out of a clutch. If we were racing as pro's with HD clutches and a big parts budget we would not even need to bother with first gear launches. Since we are trying to get our cars off the line at an Autocross or from stoplight to stoplight we need to do it a bit differently than a full race launch. You can still get a great launch without totally hammering your clutch. I just did an Autocross a few weeks ago, my first in my new STi and i had pretty good luck holding a steady 4,000 rpms. That RPM with a smooth but swift release of the clutch and a simultaneous dose of throttle in one motion was the perfect match for the traction conditions. I chose 4 grand because that is very the begining of where my car starts to have a nice smooth pull, just before things get really frantic. By the time my clutch was fully released I had a brief moments pull before it was time to leave first gear behind. What you want is acceleration, no wheelspin or excessive time slipping the clutch, just a surge.

I would also recommend changing tire pressure settings. I thought they wouldn't matter but I have been proven wrong by simply playing with the rear pressures. I am able to launch much better and I am able to get rid of the rear floating feeling I previously had when taking long sweepers.

Didn't read it all....but you bloop it because it holds boost. holding the car at 5k doesn't keep boost.

i was launching my car today and found out that if i double clutch wail still in first gear( to get rid of lag) the rpm's jump up like crazy and pulls you back hard.... is this bad for the car, motor, mounts, clutch, tranny?

O.k. men, I went to drag race with my car last night. I tried to slip the clutch as every one is doing …. I couldn't do so . the beast number I got was 12.98 @ 107 and that was only one time.

I am good at dumping the clutch though I did a couple of 12.8s and my beast was 12.81 @ 109.
<O
Dos that sucks or what !!!

I have a 280whp at 21psi and go's down to 19 at higher rpm. My tire are stock street tires. And the car spins the 4w when I take off.
<O
What do you think ? Any advice ?

I wouldnt reccomend doing that .. because it's gotta **** something up ...

and 2. How would you have that much time to go all the way back to auto while youre in 2nd gear? 2nd gear goes by fast ..

Wouldn't do anything and if anything is better for the DCCD clutch. WHen its open (green circle, bottom setting) the electronic clutch is OFF and allows 65 rear and 35 front. When its ON (Auto or anything but the green circle on bottom) there is power applied to the clutch and it modified torque split gradually to 50/50 at full lock.

Logic dictates that best launch would be at Auto, because when you floor the gas DCCD will start to engage the DCCD clutch to help the car move along.

In the end thoug, AWD > * so you're still doing a massively better launch than anyone else.
