i didn't learn to drive stick until i got my sti. it was my first manual tranny car. you'll get the rev-match downshift easily. just takes a little practice. clutch-in, rev match and shift simultaneously, clutch out. after that, try heel-toe, double-clutching, and heel-toe double clutching. this is the order i learned in.

question.. when you downshift, do you let go of the gas when you press the clutch in? or do you just keep your foot on the throttle while pressing the clutch? know what im talking about?

^ uhm; clutch in(without giving gas, like u normally do), blip throttle to match next gear's rpm while you are moving the shifter to the new gear, then let out and it should be pretty smooth

that's how I usually do it but i was wondering if it'll use up clutch more if I keep the throttle in the same position when i clutch in to downshift instead of throttle off then clutch in.. etc..

i learned how to rev match before heel toe, just made sense to me. once you've learned how to rev match, you'll do it all the time, without even thinking about it. It just makes downshifting so smoooth. the only way i can describe it is, clutch in, blip the throttle as your shifting the stick into the lower gear, clutch out.

Double Clutch FTMFW!!! The gears def shift easier when double clutching (downshifting!)

Do some research on the net about double clutching! Its not hard, but some people seem to have a mental block when it comes to it!

Everyone should be double clutching (Which of course includes rev matching!)

double clutch technique if you can't find it:

1. clutch-in
2. shift to neutral
3. clutch-out
4. rev-match
5. clutch-in
6. shift to lower gear
7. clutch out

the key is to be smooth and quick. don't over think it either. just do it. heel-toe double clutch down shifts are the same, but you're doing the above while braking. watch the gary sheehan foot-box video. that guys is a master of the heel-toe double clutch.

Heel/toe is definitely one of the best driving techniques one can learn. It really improves the ride quality and doesn't stress the drivetrain. Anyway, here is a direct link to Gary Sheehan's "Footbox" video: http://www.teamsmr.com/movies/Footbox%20Small.wmv

i think you have too many steps in there. it's not that complicated. heel toe is rev matching/double clutching, right?

brake, clutch in, blip (rev match) down shift, and clutch out.

rev matching is waht you said, lokutus has the double clutching right. They are 2 seperate things.

in rev matching you only push in the clutch once and let it out once. So while the clutch is in you blip the gas and put it into gear and the let clutch out. Obviously you do it quickly.

In double clutching you push in clutch twice and clutch out twice.
you are in N when you blip the throttle in double clutching.
