Default First time at the track, I did ok. How can I improve?

I went to Englishtown on Wed. 9/20/06 it was my first time on the 1/4 track. I have a 2005 STi with catless TurboXS turboback, K&N Typhoon, Perrin crank pulley, Cobb AccessPORT protuned by XX-Tuning and a walbro 255. I got 2 runs in, first run:

R/T .879
60' 1.943
1/4 13.312
MPH 103.08

second run

R/T .939
60' 1.777
1/4 13.113
MPH 102.27

I ran on 18inch OZ Ultraleggera's with Pirelli PZero Rosso tires (36.5 psi front 33.5 psi rear) and I had full sound system in the car and about 3/4 tank of gas with 3.5 gallons of 110 octane gas. I was shifting at 7,100 rpm.

I am going back next week with less gas, stock wheels and tires and I want to adjust my tire pressure. Maybe I will try shifting at about 6,300 or 6,500 rpm.

What do you guys think can I get it into the 12's?
What will I have to do?

don't shift so high, you're not making the power at 7,100 rpms on the stock turbo. go back and try shifting at 6500. my friend was shifting at 7k, told him to shift at 6500 and he gained 1mph. also, drop the weight of your system and don't have as much gas in the tank. i regularly race with 1/4th a tank or less. food for thought.

We were gonna go on Wednesday, but something came up. I'm heading there next Wednesday tho 9-27.

Your numbers look about right for what you had in the car. Next time you go, try to prep the car alittle bit by taking out the box/spare tire/jack. Try having your fuel light on. There is much debate about where/when to shift. When I was still a noob at the track, I was redlining every single gear, and running consistant ~100mph trap speeds. Now I redline 1st, and the rest I shift at 6K, and I'm constistant ~105mph trap speeds.

Also try running your tires with less air. Yours were up pretty high. Did you take the reading when they were cold or hot? My guess is that you were spinning pretty good which is what landed you the 1.9 60' time. bring that down to a 1.7, and that alone will shave .4s off your 1/4 mile time. I usually run my tires around 28psi when they're cold, and I turn out consistant 1.7s 60' times.

Good luck man, and practice makes perfect.

Much better! It's all about the 60' times. Not to mention if your stage 2, the power curve up top is slightly different, there is no advantage shifting at 7k in the higher gears.

Nice times man. My best for the night was 13.2 @ 107. Trap speed wasn't bad, but my ET just isn't there. Not to mention my clutch was slipping last night.
