IWSTI Addict since: Oct 2004 Trader Rating: (1) | When I am racing (shifting fast), the boost drops and my car bucks once or twice and then goes again. It doesn't do it everytime, but does do it at the most inconvenient times. I have tried different shifting techniques and still get the same problem. It's like the car jerks for a second as I shift into the next gear under full throttle. This is not helping my 1/4 mile times at all. Some one has got to have experienced this before. I would be surprised if mine is an isolated incident. Anyone? Mods are: K&N Typhoon Helix catless dp HKS Carbon Ti cat-back Cobb stage 2 This ad is not endorsed by this member. | Spec C Club | gosh, i am no good at explaining stick, but for max power you are in no way letting the clutch all the way out before using gas. using gas while bringing clutch out decreases your time on the clutch and powers you out of each gear.. make sure you are giving ample gas for the speed in which you are letting the clutch out. getting clutch out and then mashing gas is not proper. i release clutch with some gas to ease the transaction and provide a smooth ride out of each gear. hope that helped. sorry if that is not what you are looking for. |

However, another thing to consider is tuning problems. Did the car do this when you first got it and it was stock? My old mustang used to hesitate just as the supercharger started making boost due to a temporary rich condition in the engine. Since your sig says you are running a typhoon and other threads have discussed the typhoon making the STi run rich, it might be an intake problem. Check your bumper near the exhaust to see if you have excesive carbonation around the exhaust tip (vague indication of running rich). If so, then it might be worth either getting a good pro-tune from a shop or seeing if switching to the stock intake box and resetting the CPU cures the problem. |

The Evo and R32 do not exhibit this type of behavior. Like the others have said, it is proper balance of the clutch and throttle. It took my a while to figure it out, but you can engage quickly and smoothly at the same time. I shift extremely fast(my old drag racing habits die hard) in my STi, as fast as you can while still using the clutch. Every once and a while I will get the hesitation between shifts, just not as much as I used to. Mike |

| Spec C Club | It sounds like you are shift-bogging. Sounds silly and I hadn't heard it until someone mentioned it to me, but it definately can happen and its pretty much what everyone else is describing without with the term. |

IWSTI Addict since: Oct 2003 Trader Rating: (0) | Same. It took me a while to get used to this as the effect seems more pronounced with a turbo car (and it might have something to do with the electronic throttle.) My RSX never exhibited this effect. Now that I'm used to the clutch/throttle, when I shift, I find myself coming off the throttle less than I would in my RSX. It makes a HUGE difference as, especially on the 1-2 shift as the nose doesn't drop and the power in the next gear is damn near instantaneous. This ad is not endorsed by this member.
