Default Re: Autocross for the 1st time

I've just started autoXing my '08 STI as well (previously autoX'd an S2000 for 4 yrs). 3 events so far and I'll share what I've learned.

1. Set the car to Auto-, S#, and VDC off (both traction and skid, yellow icon).
2. Start with tire pressures set a few PSI about normal for your first couple events. I'd concentrate on the course far more than your car setup to begin with.
3. For most courses I start in 1st, then shift to 2nd gear and leave it. Left foot on the dead pedal, both hands on the wheel the whole time. It's a rare course that you need to up/down shift in these cars.
4. Get people to ride with you! And always ask them for 1 peice of advice when you are through. Heck, I'll get multiple people to ride with me at times!
5. Have fun! Enjoy the challenge of trying better your time each run. Talk with enthusiasts and watch people drive! Try something new!

Also, keep your eyes ahead always looking for the next turn instead of glued 10 feet in front of your car.
