1/4 mile question

I've never ran at a dragstrip, but for you guys that do I have a question. When you run a 1/4 mile, what's the highest gear you reach ? 4th or 5th ?

When I went to the dragstrip I did go to 5th.

i hit 5th in mine also. everytime. it sucked i wish i had slightly longer gears because of that, you see your almost there and have to shift probably around the 1000ft. for me atleast

Well 4th gear tops out at around ~96. So you definitely are gonna go into 5th.

04-06 sti - 5th gear

07+ sti - 4th

07's own at the track because of it.

^^ Yeah that... 07' lucky b*stards...j/k.. 5th gear it is to get that last 6 mph... That rates right up there with needing 3rd to get to 60mph..

actually, the drag racers with 07s see that shifting into 5th is better than winding out 4th, unless you have power greater than stage 2. But, this is based on their experiences. I would love to hit sixty in second like 07s, but I plan on using tires to change my ratios over a gear swap lol.

It is even nicer when you have an 07 and need 5th.

When we built my motor, we did the valve springs, retainers, and now cams so it makes power to 8K and the goal is to run 4th through the traps on pump gas at ~128

4th gear in my STI 07.

So, it wouldn't matter that I have a 20G, and putting 350/370 to the ground. You're saying I would be gearbound, right ?

My stage 1 tops out 4th at about 102mph which for me is right about 1/4 mark at redline.
