Default Shifting timing for maximum performance

Okay. I recently went to my dream stage 2. I can definitely feel the power increase, but (I will be honest), I feel like I am not shifting the right timing to feel the REAL power. What I mean is, I pretty much floored it and always shifted right before or right when the red light lits. I read from somewhere that never hit your actual redline since it decreases the power, but I am not sure if that's why I am not feeling the true power of the car.

When you guys shift, do you guys have specific shift timing for each gear? What are your techniques? I really would love to know.

the best time to shift is when your peak power drops on your dyno sheet. if you get your car tuned and dyno'ed, you should see your power band on the graph... the best time to shift is when the power band starts to drop...

You know, I am not sure myself since I am trying to find that out. My local store is doing a dyno special (3 pulls for $50), so maybe I will take my car there and see where I stand now and get a better idea on when to shift.

wow, you are a newb...j/k
right under you tach (rpm gauge) there's a button that says "revs", push that once then rotate it counter-clockwise if you want the stift light/buzzer to come on at lower rpm's or rotate it clockwise if you want the shift light/buzzer to come on at higher rpm's. good luck and enjoy!

I don't even know this answer. But I've heard a lot of people say that it's best to shift in the mid 6000 range. But then I've seen that people have actually ran faster times shifting at or above 7000 rpms. It's a case by case thing. I think that if you're stock, shifting in the mid 6000 range will work well, but if you're stage 2, I don't know what to tell you. I've seen mixed results, so I guess you'll have to feel it out.

Yeah, that is what I am going to do. I am going to do some trial and error to find out what's the best shifting timing for my car. I assume each car is different since we all have different mods and each car are slightly different also.

The title of this thread is pretty confusing. At first glance it seems you are asking about shifting ignition timing to get the most out of your motor instead of the "shift timing" you are asking about.

Anyways, yeah each setup and car will be different . I liked to shift anywhere from 65k-6750 on my old stock turbo setup.

again like i said the best time to shift is when you power band drops on the dyno sheet. we wont be able to tell you when that is, you will have to shift at 6.5k rpm for semi best results until you get another dyno pull or tune to see your power band. if it rises off the chart, set the tach shift light to 7k... if it drops before 7k then set your light for when the power band drops

Yeah, I agreed with what you said before, so I called and scheduled a dyno for next weekend. They also have a special for 3 pulls for $50.
I will let you know once I get the result.
