Default Drag racing help

Ok guys so I went out to the track for the first time ever. It was also my first ever attempts at launching the car. Keep in mind that I'm still barley 17 and this is my first and only car. I learned how to drive a stick in the sti so maybe my lack of experience can help to excuse my sucking. So my first couple runs i was really nervous and my 60fts were about 3 seconds and I ran 14.9's. Now after about 10 or so runs all I can get is a 14.085 with a 2.117 60ft at 96mph with my times consistently being about 14.2-14.3 at 98mph. I know I need some serious help as the car feels much faster than a 14 second car. I just cannot figure out how to get this dang car to take off like I want it too. It always bogs down or I ride the clutch too long but either way i only get like a 2.3-2.4 sec. 60ft and that's horrible! Can any of you guys offer some good advice or pointers or anything!? I'm really frustrated, pissed off, and flat out embarrassed by these times! I'm running stock potenzas at 40psi and cobb stg2. Also the tires aren't really like spinning or anything and i was holding the gas steady at about 3500-4000.

Well I think I'm going to go cry myself to sleep now so please guys don't make fun of my I already feel bad enough about it trust me, but please any help would be great. Anyone who lives in washington that can help me I would love it if you wanna come ride with me and teach me how to do this i will buy you dinner . I just feel so dumb cuz I drive a 13 second car that only runs 14's wtf how do I fix this!!!?

just dont practice on an old airfield and see how fast you can go

old (by net standards) story that started out much like yours

but just keep it on the track and practice practice practice, from what you said it seems like your doing everything right just need more seat time....what do you have the DCCD set at?

Oh ok yea like i said i have never even tried to launch it before until i took it to the track. There isnt really anywhere else you can do it safely. Its set in auto. I cannot figure out what I need to change. Maybe higher rpm's? Should I try blipping the throttle to get some boost going instead of just holding it steady? I'm trying not to just dump the clutch but like I said it either bogged down or I rode the clutch more but it still wasnt fast. I was expecting it to spin or something and get me into the <2.00 range but it didn't. idk wat to do..

hmm well im using an LC map but i used to hold it at around 4500 and basically just let the clutch out the same as normal driving just faster you dont wanna dump the piss out of it just let it out fast. when i was doing it with no LC i held it at 4500 and mashed the gas as i was letting it out, when the clutch got all the way out i was at around 5600 or so i dont know if that makes any sense but ill be up for a little bit yet so ask away! lol

*edit* you probably wont get nasty spin at that rpm w/o an LC map or being REALLY good at it

I am alittle new to this AWD launching as well, but getting better. Practice does help, what I can tell you is what 1loadsti said let the clutch out like you would taking off normal just a millisecond faster, don't dump it, the object is not to burn out or burn up your clutch either way you lose time. I use the launch control now set a 4000, I like it because it holds your boost good, and you don't have to worry to much, just the clutch release. If I were you I would try the LC, it leaves less room for error, when you get it right it will drop your stomach like a rollercoaster and your times will get much better. Good Luck.

I see what you are saying. So don't necessarily dump or ride the clutch just try to act like its a normal take off but a little faster. I don't think I want to try launch control cuz of the whole ffs thing. Do you guys think I should be leaving at more than 4000? Or does my bogging have anything to do with the fact that im not blipping the throttle so no boost cuz I thought I could still get a decent launch without doing this?

hold your rpms at 5000-5500 and slip the clutch don't dump it. as soon as your fell it start to grip and move, WOT. i was having the same problems when i wouldn't get my rpms high enough but when i had it at 5000-5500, never ran above 14s. fastest i had was 13.2 at 104. fastest 60ft was 1.74 i believe. just practice man thats what it takes

Were you only cobb stage 2 when you did that? This might sound confusing but how will you know when it has completly grabbed? last nite I kept letting it out cuz I thought it was going but then it still bogged? Is that just due to leaving at too low of rpm's? Thanks I guess next time I go out i'll have to try around 5000 and see where that gets me. 13.2 is really good I would kill to be able to run that props man !!!

yeah i was cobb stg 2 flashed with spt intake and aps 3.5" tbe. you just got to feel when you are at 5000-5500 rpms as soon as you start slipping the clutch it grabs quick you'll now. if you can find an empty parking lot away from attracted attention and just get a feel for it.

as you are letting your clutch out start to push it towards WOT because as we all know it takes less to get it to 5000 while it has no load. ya know. anyways just play with it a little and soon you will be able to see. when you get it right tho be ready 2nd gear comes up quick.

btw that was my first run at the track that night after that heatsoak set in and i couldn't get below 13.4. but after my first run my next 3 were in the 14's do to bad launches and missing gears. just practice man but holding it around 3-4 will just cause you to bog. i learned that. best of luck.

btw no LC you get better 60ft's. so i will continue to run without it

can i ask how you come to the conclusion that no LC nets better 60's?

if done correctly its much faster, think about it

no boost at launch (conversationally anyway you will be building but not much) v.s 13 psi in my case...if you use the same technique both times it will be quicker
