yeah i hear that, but a lot of times unless you are first to the line you won't hit 13psi, i guess its all about getting staged first, right?. i know thats why i kept whooping on my buddy last week. i wasn't being to nice and letting him get staged and set. lol

you can build boost as soon as you want...the first light comes on hit the gas, you will have boost by the time its time to leave

with my buddy's everytime it hits the limit on the lc its like 2-3 psi so if he doesn't get staged first he doesn't build all his boost. anyways, i guess maybe i'll try an lc map sometime. and see what i think

whats his limiter set at? within the amount of time from the first light coming on to when i leave i can get 12-13 at times, sometimes a little less depending on outside factors

Im a Hater Im not gonna Lie ( i mean what's the point) Dude at 17!! I was rolling a civic that I built with my own hands, If I saw you at the track I would take my belt off and whip you to make sure you deserve that car, and then I would sit you on my lap while you're crying and say "heres how we drive these cars", and i would train you how to drag race!

So my first couple runs i was really nervous and my 60fts were about 3 seconds and I ran 14.9's. Now after about 10 or so runs all I can get is a 14.085 with a 2.117 60ft at 96mph with my times consistently being about 14.2-14.3 at 98mph. I know I need some serious help as the car feels much faster than a 14 second car. I just cannot figure out how to get this dang car to take off like I want it too. It always bogs down or I ride the clutch too long but either way i only get like a 2.3-2.4 sec. 60ft and that's horrible! Can any of you guys offer some good advice or pointers or anything!? I'm really frustrated, pissed off, and flat out embarrassed by these times! I'm running stock potenzas at 40psi and cobb stg2. Also the tires aren't really like spinning or anything and i was holding the gas steady at about 3500-4000.

Well I think I'm going to go cry myself to sleep now so please guys don't make fun of my I already feel bad enough about it trust me, but please any help would be great. Anyone who lives in washington that can help me I would love it if you wanna come ride with me and teach me how to do this i will buy you dinner . I just feel so dumb cuz I drive a 13 second car that only runs 14's wtf how do I fix this!!!?
Step 1 put dccd in full rear
Step 2 floor the gas pedal
step 3 let off at 6500 rpms
step 4 floor the gas pedal again when rpms drop to 5000 rpms
step 5 at 6500 rpms start to engage the clutch. (about 1/4 engagement)
step 6 Immidiately let off to 1/2 - 3/4 throttle but keep clutch engagement at the same position.
step 7 watch your rpm's drop from 6500 to 5500 (happens in 0.2-0.3 sec)
step 8 once the tac swings past 5500 simultaneously let the clutch out all the way and floor the throttle

step 5 to step 8 happen in about 0.5 seconds.

once the clutch is all the way out and you're going WOT if your rpm's are above 4500 rpms then consider it a "decent" launch.

first of all, absurd post oman. you built a civic with your own hands? what does that even mean? are you like abraham lincoln with his log cabin or did you mod a POS into streetable condition?

as far as launching is concerned, hold 2500rpm for 1-2 seconds, then floor the accelerator, timing the lights so that you hit 6500rpm when you drop the clutch. d(rotational inertia) will suck you back into the 4000's while you skip the tires (and the clutch unfortunately). grab 2nd at 7100, and row 3rd and 4th like a stepper motor.

It is almost easiest to start launching the car by trying to do a burnout. The AWD will hook, but drive it like you stole it. You are harder on the car by bogging than by getting a little wheelspin. Don't dump the clutch though, you have to slip it a bit.

I used my stock tire potenzas in 1/4 miles drag race and no problem in 30 psi .

1st gear i launched 5500 rpm to 7000 rpm
2nd gear 7000 rpm
3rd gear 7000 rpm

check out my 1/4 miles drag race video:

First of all, for at least a 1.7 launch all i do is rev to about 5, once i see the last green light(on the light tree), i pick my foot up like i stepped into poo and the wheels slip a bit all adding up for one fun hopefully undamaging launch.

As someone that learned to drive stick on an sti also (I'm 18, occasionally driving my father's car) i found that learning how to drive and shift SUPER smoothly and quickly was monumentally more helpful and important to learning how to launch due to the fact that the skills tend to build on each other. Seems you just get more comfortable with how the car reacts in general.

Just as a note that could help you out a bit, when racing did you have your spare tire and jack in the car or anything else for that matter? Less weight always helps. And did you happen to be at pacific raceways? Im from washington as well. (Btw i got a... 13.38 on a stock sti 05, not ideal but not bad for my first trip to the drags as well.)

My story is alot like yours.. I just turned 19 and I learned how to drive stick about 2 weeks ago on my 04 STi... I got the launches down along with shifts because i practiced ALL night for like a week straight haha... I suggest you do the same and you will be straight... I can hit 13s pretty easy now..
