I think some of you are getting FFS and power shifting confused.... FFS still uses the clutch to shift. I can see how power shifting could damage the tranny.... but can someone explain how FFS is hard on the tranny?

Its not hard on the tranny! I do both FFS and speed shifting, and it feels less abusive on the tranny to FFS then it does to speed shift.

I'v been FFS for the last decade in various cars I'v owned, 02' RamAir WS6, 93' Firehawk, 94' s-10 blazer, 94' Suzuki Samurai, and many others, with zero problems. It might very well be cuz I'm a badass shifter and never hit the rev limiter, and never missed a gear.

I got the stock mapping on the car and yess I have noticed the ECU retards the timing, but the bottom line is FFS will still make you faster than speed shifting.

FFS FTW!!!!

So you may be the wizard ultimate driver that never grinds a shift or ever hurts his/her tranny or misses a gear, but STOP spreading false information. FFS is extremely hard on the tranny.

actually I've seen the sti speedshifted at amazing speeds (literally imagine in 1 motion stabbing the clutch in and letting of as fast as you can in 1 solid motion), its truly amazing. I've had 2 sti's, wrx blah blah and most importantly a fully built 5 liter. Im not novice to drag racing, but the way the sti can be shifted is incredible. Funny, it actually seemed to smoother than regular fast shifting. I know a guy who did this to a 2.0 liter wrx!!!!, lasted forever never a tranny prob.

I think it's all about how you do it, and the fact is if you are talented you can do it without harming the car.

does seem to wear it some tho, i think its good for that special drag race, but not everytime u run thru the gears

Everybody misses a gear from time to time. If not, you're not driving hard enough. Lol. Seriously though, everybody misses a gear here and there. Be a man and admit it.

I noticed the motor retarding when FFS on the stock map. I still do it anyway when I race, its still better than a speed shift.

probably shift knock, what ED at EQ Tuning is a pro at fixing. He makes the car rip during shifts.

I really dont think the transmission is gonna go from FFS atleast not in an sti theyre tranny are bullet proof if anything youll wear down the syncros faster and burn your clutch overtime and maybe some shock to the rear end if you do it wrong but thats it

i think one of you guys who think it's a great idea should call andrew at andrewtech and get him to confirm what a great idea it is. that would settle this argument once and for all and you'll look like a gizza for doing it. andrew is probably the leading subaru tranny authorities in the u.s.

240-683-1000.

go for it.

Um, are you like retarted, or do you just simply suck at shifting? Maybe both? Probably! I FFS many times everyday, i'v put 30k on my car and I havnt had any problems.
