Default "super-bee"

whats up guys? an old guy at my work just bought himself a charger hemi srt-8 super bee and hes been bragging about it to everyone that its 425bhp and its pretty nice but it got me thinking what would happen if i invited him to the dragstrip. a stock 05 STi vs stock super-bee. i think it would be a close race and depend alot on the drivers, whatcha think? i would love to show him the power a flat-4 can have

He will own you in the top end...and probably the race.

It's an auto right?

0-60 in low 5's, 0-100 in "under 17 seconds", 1/4 mile in 13.7 @ 106, please.

My fathers friend let me drive his 300-c srt-8 which is more or less the same thing ( maybe a tad bit heavier ) and it did not impress me. I stomped it at 60 and it felt quick, but the acceleration from there on to 140 was slower than the sti. Still, nice huge car, kinda liked it.

I bet you can take him if your a good driver and just pull off a sweet launch. The STi's awd launch will be able to get your car moving faster than that fat american rig. I really think once he's behind you, he wont catch up. Never let him get ahead lol

And if he beats you, oh well ...He's just trying to re-live his childhood

BTW I used to have a "Rumble Bee" truck that would run a low to mid 14 second quarter mile times with good launges ( 14.2-14.4 ). That had the 5.7 hemi, srt-8 6.1 cam, longtube headers, superchips programmer, vararam hemi under glass ram air intake ( thats long lol ) and a lowering kit. Those rams were too fat to be fast ... I like my sti's acceleration much better

at people saying super bee will win. Sti all the way. Those things weigh as much as an sti pulling a race bike on a trailer with four people on board.... Get a good launch and hes yours. If you suck at launching he might have a chance I guess

If you are stage 2 you should have no problems. Tricky thing is the launch, his auto will probably be more consistent then I would be. This Edmunds article has some performance numbers on the super bee that are pretty interesting. In short, the bee is a lot slower then it's specs suggest, or they tested an extremely poor example.

2008 Pontiac G8 GT Full Test

Although the article is for the 2008 GT, they do a bunch of drag strip launches against the super bee.

If he mashes the gas off the line, that 425 hp or 400 tq are gonna send those rear wheels spinnin, and when that happens, launch and go.

He'll run consistent quarter miles with his 6 speed auto. I think that should be good for high 13s.

Assuming you are still stock, STIs can get as low as low 13s. But that's if you launch correctly. If you botch it, you'll loose the race. So really, like most manual versus automatic races, it'll depend on your skill. That's one of the points of driving manual right? I mean, his grandmotehr could substitute him in this race and pull the exact same time as he could.

If you go Stage II, then its different.

Uh....The SRT-8 versions run 12.8-13.0 1/4 mile times. Stage 2 should win but is still a drivers race in his favor (auto for consistency). You have to nail the launch and hope he flies past you after the stripe at the end. He will wax you on the highway. You have the advantage from the start, but he will be reeling you back in.

You better have a perfect launch even for a stage 2 car. I would put my money on him even with you stage 2 protuned. 106mph having shifting to 5th gear in the 1/4 mile is extremely difficult to obtain

sti will get him(assuming driving and launch are efficient) the first time i went to the track i raced one and with a 1.76 60 foot and decent shifting i got him he went 13.5 or something like that i went 13.4 (i was stock). He didnt seem to have a good launch but i mean its not like he can misshift or anything so im goin with the sti if the driver is good
