anyone have lap timers?

I enjoy autox as much as the next person. However I need more seat time than 6 laps spread out over the whole day! My solution is to buy a lap timer with additional beacons for splittimes and set up my own course in a big lot somewhere. I'm looking for advise on what system to buy. I searched the interweb and found three main units in the $300 range. Does anyone have any personal experiance with any lap timers?

This thread may get more exposure in a diff heading (suspension, handeling...) but I think this is the appropriate place.

I have the Passport GT2 which I mainly use for the drag strip. I really like some of the features it has for lateral G's and braking. I have not had a chance to use the features for an auto X, but I can say that I like using it. The timer's are fun, and if you have access to a parking lot that you can actually set up a course, more power to you. I would think it would be hard to get a course set up without a lot of planning and permission by the lot owner.
