Default Diagnosing Differential binding noise. Need Help.

Hi everyone!
I have an 05 Sti. My car is currently making a binding noise from the center diff area. It started about four months ago after the fluid change.
I brought my car to the dealer to have them take a look at the problem and they ended up changing the center diff then 3 months later changing the rear diff.
Sad to say the binding noise is still there.
I tried changing the fluid in the tranny and all I noitced is the smoothness of different fluids. LOL...
I still get the binding noise.

The noise only happens when going around tight corners (when parking in a parking lot in first gear with the steering wheel turned and locked at slow speeds). It sounds like the DCCD is in the off the auto mode in a different diff setting but being in AUTO.

Can it be my mods?
-group-n top mounts
-RCE springs
-Kartboy endlinks
-TIC kartboy Sexy rear end kit.

Can it be something else thats causing this problems?

Thanks in advance.

What does this binding sound, sound like? I am asking because I think I might have the same problem as you do. Do you hear the sound when your coasting? Mines has the sound when I am coasting and when Im going slow in first gear. Took it to a subaru specialist and he said it might be the transmission fluid (I changed trans fluid, thats when the sound started) he also said it sounds like front diff is locking up. I have no clue what that means. He just suggest me to change it again. In my case it sounds like a fluttering sound when slowing down but when going 5-10mph it sounds like a clicking sound (not in gear). Sound similar to yours?

In my car it's very noticeable. I'm talking about grinding and clunking/jerking around corners in first gear when going 1-5mph but this all happens in Auto mode. Just as if the diff was in lock (orange area/top lock mark on the DCCD indicator).
I change fluids in the tranny for the 4th time. This time I tried Royal purple stuff.
I noticed its a little less noisy but not by much.
My big concern is if this is going to cause any damage to the tranny.

I think I'm gonna give a week or two then I might try Motul 300.

Any suggestions any one?

I have motul 300 in my trans right now. I went from redline 75w90ns to motul it was a big difference in my case but, the sound was still there just not as loud. When you change your trans fluid do you unscrew 2 bolts or 1 to drain? Cause i read on the other post that there is a 2nd bolt to drain the fluid? Does the front/center diff share the same fluid as the transmission (when your pour trans fluid in the trans does it go to the diff too?).

How to: changing 6MT trans oil

This is where i read about the second bolt. When i changed my fluid i didnt unbolt the second bolt. I think i might have left some of the old fluid cause when i fill up my trans with motul it only took 3quarts and a half.....and here it says 6mt takes about 4.3quarts....So i was wondering when you changed yours did you just unbolt 1?

When I drained my fluid I only unscrewed the bottom bolt of the transmission on the Pan.
Maybe it could be the old fluid in there as well causing a crazy ****tail of some sort because I didn't unscrew the 2nd drain bolt your speaking about. I didn't even know there was a second bolt.
Does anyone know where it is?

Yeah you need to drain from both, get out as much as possible. I jack my car up from the rear to try and get everything out. Our drivetrain is notoriously noisy and jurky in low speeds.

I changed my fluid last sunday and this time I drained both bolts. So far as it stands it is running pretty good but, I want to put more miles on it to see if the sound will come back. Oh yeah I'm running motul 300.

I had a few questions when you guys put trans fluid in how man quarts do you put and where is the oil level at when you are done (on dipstick).

Lmk when you change yours and the results.....

I still haven't brought the Motul 300 Fluid for my car. Did you do the front and rear fluid?
Buy the way, were is the second drain bolt for the tranny?

Also, why did you change your fluids? Where you getting the binding noise?

When I filled up my tranny fluid with the current fluids that is in, I used a little over 4qts and I made sure I checked the levels when the car was cold and on a flat surface. The fluid reached the top line of the dipstick when cold. When I checked it hot, then the fluid would go over the top line.

I did had some binding sounds and i had grinding while in gear. I only changed the transmission fluid.

But, i believe that there is something else wrong with my transmission and has nothing to do with fluid because the grinding sound came back today and a little binding.......

Well i could be wrong? Anyone have the same problems and fixed it with fluids?

When i put 4qts the F is covered by oil, does that mean it is too full? (cold)

My cars tranny dipstick doesn't have a F or a L to indicate were are my levels for the fluid. It has a line on top and a line on the bottom on the end of the dipstick itself.
But if the F on your dipstick indicates the top off line for tranny fluid then you should be just fine if your fluid touches that F when read cold.
I usally read my fluid early morning when the car was sitting all night long.

My car really bind up when going around the corners slow in auto mode.
It really pisses me off because I have a new center diff and I also have a new rear diff but still get the binding noise.

Does anyone think they might know why?

I had this exact problem. It was a long road to getting it fixed, but i eventually got the center diff replaced and the problem went away. I never heard exactly what was wrong with it, but it definitely fixed the problem. Since i have put about 20,000 miles on the diff and no problems whatsoever. There is alot of details that i didn't really go into, but if you have specific questions i would love to anwser them.
