any of the ss kits are better than the stock shifter. it's hard to say why it doesn't feel right at this distance. consider doing the kartboy and tic bushings if you didn't already.

Can you be more specific than "really doesn't feel right"?

The factory (SPT) short shifter doesn't really change the length of the throws very much, but it does clean up the detents between gates. You should definitely be able to notice a positive difference in shifting precision; but in order to notice a difference in the throws you may have to sit in one with and one without, back to back.

After a while (I'm talking 2.5 years and 60K miles) things start getting mushy again; I have TiC's shifter set sitting on my workbench waiting for a round tuit.

Can you be more specific? What doesn't feel right in the shifter? Is it mushy, not precise, or what? Look into the TiC bushings package.

My car was delivered with the port installed Subaru short shifter. It was pretty unimpressive. A few weeks ago, I switched to the Cobb DA shifter with the TiC Holy Shift bushing kit. There is no comparison, the shifts are much much shorter and more positive now. I'm sure that the Kartboy shifter with the bushings would be equally wonderful.

Keep in mind since your had the factory SS you get the advantage of the shortened linkage to the trans. This offers a shorter and tighter throw than an aftermarket lever alone.

I love my spt shortthrow. I find it the perfect balance between notchy/ultra short... and comfortable for DD. I have no issues with mine.

Are you missing shifts due to the side to side play in the lever, and not being able to line it up to the gates?

I just purchased one for my 02 WRX and it felt terrible, hard to get into gears and did not want to go back and forth easily then found it hitting the floorboard from underneath....but that might just be because I have an SPT SS in a BugEye....

I would check it out though...

(I just installed a 6MT STi trans in the car so it was cheaper to buy the SS assembly from Subaru that way...)

So its possible to change the shifter lever/bushings with the factory short shifter?

I don't hate mine so to speak but its nothing like the B&M ripper in my Fbody.
