Do you mean removing the intake silencer and putting an elbow there? That is the only way I have seen it done.

nope without the elbow. Plug the stock hole where airs supposed to come in and make a new one in front. That would remove the whole elbow section which would force air straight into the box without having to turn any corners.

I'm running 3" PVC pipe from the foglight opening to the stock air box, seems to work well.

I've pondered the idea as it would create a more direct route into the intake box, but figured it would negate any positive gains from the turbulence of such routing. I think the stock setup creates the smoothest flow into the airbox, although larger piping wouldn't hurt in it's case.

Default Anyone Have Pics of this Lip installed want a better view

stee, so if one would put an elbow from the stock box to the stock ram air scoop and somehow widened the scoop or made a totally different one, this would be the best setup? If you could make it an inch taller I think thats all the more air it could ask for. But I have no idea how you would without making a whole new one which would be rough. I also looked at cutting out all the air diverters inside the scoop but that would just make it turbulent

The alum tube to the foglight is a cool idea too

Well realize you only have as much space as the hole allowed by the hood for the ram scoop -- to suck in air that is. If you do it correctly, you could have that air being ported up into the box, but perhaps you could set it up for break cooling instead?

That is absolutely correct. You want the least restriction as possible before the turbo inlet but you also want to make sure there is a steady airflow going to the intake source.

'Shorties' work for the most part because of the decreased amount of tubing and increased filter area that is used. They also work because there is usually a positive pressure differential under the hood of a car.

The BIGGEST mistake I have read about is people taking the elbow and the ram air scoop off. You are only making the turbocharger work HARDER in order to suck in air, especially if there is airflow that enters and leaves the wheelwell area, creating a vacuum or negative pressure differential.

I'm currently satisfied with my stock airbox with resonator-deleted-intake-elbow(I plugged up the hole where the resonator once did it's magic, creating a 'free' elbow).

Ultimately, I would love to see someone( Gruppe M I think specializes in this ) create a carbon intake system for the STi, that utilizes a larger scoop and airbox and does away with the elbow.

great...right now thats what Im running, no resonator and no intake :-? glad to know that now. If I made an intake out of fiberglass like we just talked about. Think there would be some possibilites?

For those with a FMIC it would be very easy to duct air from the stock hood scoop directly into the air box. Obviously it takes a little cutting and patching on the stock air box but not bad.

Bumping a super old post, but they do make one. I'm trying to see if anyone has gotten it and what results they might have seen with it. Anyone heard anything?
