IWSTI Addict since: Mar 2007 Trader Rating: (2) | Just had my KB ss installed. I'd noticed there are rattling noises at the shifter between shift. Mostly on 2,4,6 gears, or as I am shifting/pulling towards the back. Anyone has any ideas of getting rid of this annoyance? It feels like I am in the Fast & Furious with this little clicking noise as I go throught my gears. I guess that's way the factory one has these plastic collars/bushings on their shifter? IWSTI Addict since: Jan 2006 Trader Rating: (5) | It's probably the reverse ring pull up thingie. There is a little too much tolerance inbetween it and the actual shift lever. I fixed mine by slipping a little piece of paper inbetween it (the backing of a sticker). Mine rattled even after I fixed the reverse cable rubbing on the driveshaft. |

Someone has to figure out a solution for this. I could maybe duct tape the shaft to take up some of that tolerance, but than I have to punch that pin out which is a PITA. I have to think up of something that's a permanent fix before going throught all that trouble. I know, replacing it with a different brand shifter.

Ok, I was a little confuse with the last setence, but I got it now. I just have to find myself a nice piece of vinyl sticker, so it'll last a little longer vs paper sticker. Ah, maybe I will use some of that clear 3M vinyl. Thanks.

I think I may be on to something here, or it may just only be with my shifter. After having a closer look, I'd noticed the top part ( silver plastic where the pin goes ) that sits on top of the black reverse lever was very loose. This may be the part that cause the rattles. So what I did is filled the gaps with some clear liquid silicone that was use for windshield. This stuff is very runny, so it'll run down and filled between the gaps. Now I am just waiting for it to dry (in approximately 1hr). Then we'll see if that cured the rattles? Crossing my fingers.

IWSTI Addict since: Mar 2007 Trader Rating: (2) | No rattles. It seems that little silicone cured the rattles at lease in my situation. The spaces I was referring to shown with the blue arrows in the pic provided by Peatpic. And of course that is my source of the rattles. FYI, you can filled the spaces using a toothpick all the way around the slider. And once this silicone dried in 24hrs, it'll still feel tacky/wet but it's not. This stuff is almost like a rubbery jello. |

IWSTI Addict since: Feb 2007 Trader Rating: (3) | Mine rattled as well, i searched and tried the sticker method, however there was not enough clearance to fit that between, but there was enough to make it rattle like crazy. What I did was force some really thick grease inbetween there. It was actually Superlube. I know sounds kinky but the stuff is the shiznit. Once I got some grease squiched in there and cleaned up the mess i made the rattle was gone. |

IWSTI Addict since: Mar 2007 Trader Rating: (2) | It's just really strange that when we did the ss most of us has this rattles. Could it be that because we change to the KB bushings that causes this? Just wonder if there was this rattles if we'd reused the stock bushings. I just couldn't live with that rattles. Thank God it's gone now. Love my KB SS and Bushings. I still need to do the front bushings, but not anytime soon. It's just PITA to do having to lower the tranny to get at. |

| Spec C Club | hmm thats wierd, i just did mine last week and have had no rattles. Although i tightened everything down pretty good and it was nice and stiff and this morning it is a little cooler than usual and my shifter seems looser or maybe cause the bushings arent hot... i wonder This ad is not endorsed by this member.
