Default Need help deciding on clutch

Should I get an rps that is basically stock disk with 40 more grip from diff pressure plate, or like an exedy, or what?

05, st. 2 I drive it fairly hard, but now I'm also commuting 100 miles a day and a lot of stop and go. Had a built 5 liter, done with stiff clutches for now at least until I can have multiple cars. Want stock feel but that wont wear out quickly. What do you think. Thanks guys,

I have an rps 6-puck and love it, I bet the rps street disc is a great clutch too. Expect stock-like pedal effort... with my 6-puck the pedal effort is barely more than stock.

RPS is an awesome clutch company, ive had several 3/S's with their clutches in 'em and never had a single problem. im probably going with an ACT street clutch in mine if i keep it though.

I have an exedy organic and it requires about 10% more pedal effort than stock, great clutch

Should I get the rps or just a st. 2 exedy? or something else. I just don't want crazy pedal pressure or anything that will make commuting annoying.

I just want to make sure the rps kit isn't too wussy for me. Dont want to have to replace it sooner b/c I should have gotten a stronger clutch.

FWIW, I've been using an Exedy Organic ("stage 2) and it's coming out at only 15K miles. It's developed a bad shudder, stinks like crazy whenever I back up, and it has slipped on 2 recent occasions. I don't know if it was simply a bad clutch, or what - we'll find out when we pop it out.

Also, fwiw, PDXTuning is pretty high on the RPS MS-20STI-ST for cars under 425 ft#, but I've opted for the Exedy TP instead because I like the soft take-up it has.

What do you mean by soft take up?

I just installed the ACT HD Streetdisc and Gruppe-s 14lb flywheel and I think its great. I live in northern VA so I sit through plenty of bumper to bumper traffic and its not uncomfortable at all. States that it will handle 475lbs of trq and installed really easy (I had a lift to use). I dont think you will wear it out with just a stage 2 setup. I paid 750 shipped for it from Gruppe-s.

Because it uses 2 plates for grip, they don't have to beef the spring tension up to handle the higher torque rating (500#). Thus, pedal effort is really close to stock, albeit with a slightly smaller engagement window. On the car I recently drove, the TP pedal effort was noticeably softer than the Organic single plate I currently have and the grab was more stock-like as well. It's got some noise, however, in between shifts as the 2 plates rattle against each other when they're not engaged. Shift quick and it's not noticeable, but if you sit at a stop light with the car in gear and the clutch depressed (dumb thing to do, really) it'll rattle like an old Ducati.

I have to agree with Flycaster on the Exedy, mine shudders and smells and also at times when backing-up it howles. Think I've gotten 7 months of daily and 4 auto-Xs maybe 8,000 miles. Don't expect it to last til Dec.

I also talked with an STI owner at the dragstrip a couple nights ago who told me his Exedy stg2 clutch was a pile of crap. rps ftw.

I had the ACT street clutch in mine for 8500 miles and absolutly loved it. A little stiffer than stock, and a little grabbier than stock, and IMO in all ways better than stock and a great DD clutch.
