now is it even worth upgrading the flywheel? also how much power does the stock clutch actually handle (if per say the clutch it BRAND NEW)?

I can't answer the first question. However, with resepct to the second, no one really knows or can predict since we don't know how you drive it. Personally, I put 22K miles on the stock clutch with 425# to the wheels and when we inspected it, my mechanic looked at me and asked, "Are you SURE you want to replace this?" It still looked almost brand new, never slipped once...but I replaced it anyway when we shoved the new motor in.

I'm a slow learner.

I have the ACT street clutch with the ACT flywheel. I have about 1100 miles on it. At first I kept stalling the car due to the increase in clutch grip. It was relatively hard on the leg too. After a hundred miles or so it started breaking in nicely. After 400 miles it was noticeably better. At about 800 miles everything was perfect. So, once you get past the break-in (you'll have this with any high performance kit), it's all smiles. I love the clutch and the pedal feel is great. Slightly more pressure than stock but very easy to live with. Factoring in that my left femur was shattered years back and resulted in my left leg being noticeably weaker than my right, I have no problem dirving this clutch in stop and go traffic.

With a street disk or something similar on a stage 2 would you guys recommend a sprung hub or solid hub design.
Looking at options since after a recent auto-x with 2 drivers each getting 7 runs and fun runs (hard day for the car), on the way home on the highway in 6th gear at just over 100, getting on the gas caused the clutch to slip and you could definitely smell it. The car has about 50k miles on it (OE Clutch) and was launched pretty hard earlier in the day at the auto-x and has been dragged a few times in its life. making ~340# torque. The car is going to see many more auto-x's and is pretty much the only time the car is launched aside from the infrequent trips to the strip. I've used the RPS Max series in my Supra and absolutely love it, and am thinking on either the MAX series with the sprung street disk (40% more pedal pressure) hold up to 500# or go with the Sport series (15% more pedal pressure) with the 6-puck sprung hub and hold up to 415#. I've also used ACT in my Sentra with a street disk, but due to it being a cable clutch the pedal effort is even harder in that than with my MAX series in my Supra, so I can't really compare the two brands. Does anyone here have the RPS sport series with 6 puck?

I have a ACT sprung 6 puck and love it. I have about 7k on it with over 75 launches and it takes every bit of it like a champ. Very close to stock feel.

rps and act clutches are pretty equivalent. i've got the rps (crawford) 6 puck which is a little grippy and takes time to get used to it. as others have said, the stock clutch is way underrated. unless you are making big power or doing hard launches as a matter of habit, i'd let the stock clutch play itself out before replacing it.

I'm in the 340whp range right now and the stock clutch is doing fine. Granted, I haven't tried a full out launch yet. I'm hoping that when my power goes up to about 360whp with the ewg that my clutch still holds up.

Thread revived!

Good advice on this thread but I was just wondering what clutch would hold my 30r daily at 380 and on race gas 400-420 awtq? Any suggestions?

Consensus seems to be the Exedy TP or the Act street in terms of drivability and tq it can hold but will these clutches hold my power range?

My clutch is still holding up and don't want to change it but the tuner I talked to mentioned his lastcustomer he tuned had his clutch fry during the race gas map dyno session. Any advice?

for all we know, his other customers clutch could have fried because his clutch was played out before they got started. in theory, your power level on race gas is near the limits of a stock clutch anyway. can it hold? not knowing how many miles you have on on it, sure. if you want to make certain it doesn't fail you, upgrade now. an rps or act street clutch will both do the trick. a 6 puck is probably overkill unless you have a plan to increase power later.

05, st. 2 I drive it fairly hard, but now I'm also commuting 100 miles a day and a lot of stop and go. Had a built 5 liter, done with stiff clutches for now at least until I can have multiple cars. Want stock feel but that wont wear out quickly. What do you think. Thanks guys,

RPS

My RPS 6-puck is being replaced with an ACT Xtreme 6-puck.

The RPS had at least 10k miles on it, all with a gt35r. Lots and lots of launches. There was still plenty of friction material left, but it was starting to crumble and crack. The clutch had a sprung hub and there was also some damage to the springs from rubbing against something. Still though, I think it lasted quite a while. I wanted to try something else to compare with.

Everybody in the shop laughed at me when I walked in with that ACT Xtreme clutch though, and said that I was in for a real workout.

I was in the same boat youre in..I decided to go with the exedy twin.A little expensive But wont be dissappointed.Pedal feel slightly harder barely noticable after a couple of days.Engaugement point about the same.It is a little noisy but hell why not add another noise...Im happy with the tp and would recommend it to anybody.Just my 2 cents
