do you feel like your car kinda jerks around too?...i think you are experiencing the same problem i had...i would go up my driveway with my wheels turned and i would hear this high pitched ticking sound which was basically the diffs locking...i took mine to the dealer and took a drive around with a tech and he said it was normal...from the sounds of it, you might not have an issue, but more knowledgeable people will chime in im sure

Lately, I've been getting those noises. They are driving me nuts! I also get a clunk when I release the clutch from first gear.

Normal...welcome to the world of limited-slip diffs. The noise means they are working.

When i first got my STi new i was worried about all the weird noises coming from the differential and gears. the truth of the matter is its a pretty beefed up car its been over designed and engineered with lots of heavy duty parts and equipment that make it such a beast. i learned to block out all the noises i hear and enjoy the car as it is. the most annoying sound imho is the brakes when you are making a k turn or backing into a driveway or parking spot. they clunk and squeel its real annoying but they seem to work real fine so im ok with it. The way you described the sounds it seems like you may have a problem. obviously its near impossible to paint a picture of a sound in words over the internet so I say take it to the dealership and have them look at it. if they say nothing is wrong take it to another one and get a second opinion. maybe take them for a drive and reproduce the sound to help them diagnose it better. Good luck.
