Default Help! Rear Diff. Temp. Light

I was driving today and saw my Rear Diff. Temp. Light flashing on and off, fading in and out, only when I accelerate and push the clutch in to change gears. Only happens when upshifting. I also have noticed a vibration coming from somewhere in the dash, behind speedometer in the past couple weeks. I think something vibrated loose from bumpy roads, exhaust vibration. And I have also been hearing a bump noise coming from the rear of the car trunk area. Any help or experience with common situations is appreciated.

Thank you
Derek

Look under the car at the rear diff. There is an electrical plug connecting the sensor to the warning light. Make sure it is on nice and tight.

Yeah I'm sure it not the i/c spray light. i/c spray tank is full. It's not loose either, i already checked that the spare tire area, jack area, and nothing is loose back there. It is definitely the Rear Diff. Temp Light. I watched it for about 15 mins flash and fade on and off. No Rear Diff. leaks either.

rear diff sensor plugged in? Di-electric grease helps keep a positive contact.

I checked Rear Diff. plug and it is connected tightly. I don't think that's the problem unfortunately. I am wondering if I might have a short in a wire connected to the Rear Diff Temp light. I just drove the car again briefly and the light comes on sometimes over bumps in road and especially when you accelerate and push in the clutch.

The light doesn't stay on. It flashes very quickly, in and out, as I hit a bump or push in clutch.

I disagree, could be the sensor.

Dealer Warrenty?

Vibration in the front - check your axles/CV boots.

Ya check to make sure the the sensor is plugged in. Then take it to the dealership to get fixed.

Bringing back a thread from the dead. To the OP...what was the resolution to this problem? I'm facing the same sort of thing now. I changed the oil (Subaru 90w LSD) , checked the connection, and it still flickers when I let off the gas after accelerating. I'm on my second rear diff temp sensor (the other went out during the freezing cold in northern NY) and my car is out of warranty...so I'd like to do whatever I can before I take it into the shop.

I would just add:

Make sure you check both connectors at the differential. There is one on the sensor and one (ground) that is to the right and top of the sensor (when veiwed from the back). Both are needed and either one can be your problem before replacing the sensor. Clean well and coat with silicone grease.

Hope this helps.

Checked/cleaned both connections...no improvment. Anybody else have any ideas?
