There is a ground that attaches to the rear subframe for that sensor. check that. make sure it has clean contacts.

While you are under there change the fluid.

Its a 2006. Its still under warranty. Take it in. Let Subaru deal with the headache. If anything catastrophic happens after they say your car is ok its on them. Do not change the fluid. Let Subaru change it if you really think that is the problem.

haha, it was 18 degrees today and sure enough mine came on too. (old thread I know but I wanted to post to chime in at least) as soon as I let off the gas it dims and sometimes turn off. hit the gas and sure enough it came back on. halfway home (nervous as hell it might be a real issue) the light faded out and went off completely.
sure enough the next day same thing, once I get a few miles down the road it fades off again never to be seen until the car is cold again. seemed to fade out under decel even on the highway which makes me think its an electrical connection issue or there may be low fluid in the diff (is that all it senses or is it looking for high or low temps?).

I'll check the sensor and the ground, plus its probably time for a diff fluid change anyhow.
love this forum, online info = good!!!!!!!!!!!!
