Default Clicking while decelerating and accelerating, not suspension

Update for anyone who cares:
I ended up having a cracked drive shaft by the rear end connection. Liberty Subaru found it and replaced under warranty.

I don't think it's the CV's on the axel, but I haven't been able to pin point where the noise is comming from. The wife says it's on the drivers side, I think it's comming from the center, either way it's in the rear somewhere by the rear seat or slightly behind it. This happens when I stop accelerating, but not instantly, it does not seem to be caused by instant lift. It takes about 1/2sec to 1sec to click. If I ease back to the throttle it will click again. I do not feel anything, I just hear it. Any ideas? I am probably going to go to the dealer eventualy because I believe this will be covered, but I would like to know what it could be so they do not BS me. Thanks.

I freaked out about this when I got my car. I forgot which thread here somebody explained it but it is because of our rear diff. Nothing is wrong with your car. The diff wears a bit/breaks in a bit and you have a bit of slop of some sort and that is what you hear.

I have had this noise for over 30k now and I race and daily drive my car without any issues so far outside of plenty noises I never heard before

Anyhow, search for a thread starting with knocking in the rear and somebody explains how the 1.5 lim slip diff's do that.

Try and retighten the rear axle nuts to 140 ft lbs. with a 32mm socket.

Yeah, the STI makes a racket after getting a few miles on it. My brake pads slap around in the back, my diff clicks and clacks, no shortage of interior rattles. It's character.

Congrats on that. I went to a two different dealerships and they couldn't figure it out either... but I didn't get a new diff out of it

The dealers crack me up. 95% of them have no idea about cars and common sense mechanical abilities but they do know how to get money from Subaru.

Don't knock em on a daily basis if your good we see stuff you could never imagine. The knocking is a series of issues; first the rear axles need to be backed out the hub slightly, then lubed, slid back into place and retorqued with a new nut. Second if it only happens while accel-decel and vise versa then the next step is the axles being toasted, inner cv joints get toasted pretty easily but on different levels of damage, and finally buy yourself a ned ring and pinion. Have fun but burn the clutch not the drivetrain.
