Default 05 axles into 04 trans??

If anyone has switched to 05 axles/hubs/wheels etc from an 04 trans, id liek to find out which seals you bought, becasue i used the 05 seals and they arnt even clsoe to sealing. Im thinking there was an early and late model 04 front diff backlash adjusters. i know there are options for the o-rings so that kidna supports my theory.

any way, please let me know if what seals you used and if your trans is an early or late 04 model. Thanks!

I've converted my hubs/bearings/wheels to '05 spec using my '04 axles with an ABS gear adapter.

From what I'm told, if you have a later '04 with an "outtie" style axle, as in the axle sticks into the transmission, an '05 axle is a direct replacement on an '04 with an '05 hub/bearing swap. But I don't know for sure.

Thanks for the advice. I looked into that but i chose to go this way becasue it is a stronger design. But, it really doesnt matter becasue being stonger, sitting on my jackstands, is not as good as beign weaker, and on the road.

i think my problem is i have an early 04 trans, and thought i could jsut swap the seals to an 05, when in fact teh backlash adjusters dont place the 05 axle seals out far enough to actualyl SEAL the axle. I hope more peopel can commnet with their thoughts, and if there are different versions of the backlasadjusters, anyone?

I'm not sure what you mean by stronger. I think I basically have the exact same setup you're building. 2004 gearbox with 2005 axles/bearings/hubs.

I found this, you may find some useful info here...
