Default Question on install of ACT flywheel and clutch

Ok I have the Exedy stage 1 clutch and I just ordered the ACT streetlight flywheel. I was just wondering about how long it will take to install this thing. My dad has a lift and the tools. He was looking at it and wondering would it be easier to pull the whole engine or should we just drop tranny from underneath?

dont drop the motor no need to. its easy, beginners maybe 8 hours. drop it from underneath, find some how to's online. pretty much unbolt the bolts around the housing, shift linkage, driveshaft, make sure everything is off the tranny and youre good..be sure when you put it back together, clean the shift fork, and the spline...just take your time, its pretty easy compared to other cars. torque the flywheel down properly..i do 75 ft lbs. try to install the tranny as straight as you can so you dont damage the flywheel bearing. good luck

it's not too hard but it can def take more than a day and don't stress over it.
i have the same clutch and flywheel.

hardest part for us was separating the tranny from the motor, it's mated up so perfectly it's retarded.

You like the setup? Also my dad is a auto tech has his own place and lift so I hope to get it done in about 5 hrs or so.
He said he used to work on the older subarus where the motor was easier to pull than the tranny but he looked at mine and said that might be easier for the tranny just to come out.

Drop the tranny. Much easier that way.

When you put the tranny back on put a thin film of grease between the bellhousing and the block so it will be easier to separate in the future.

Since you already have an exedy clutch installed (I'm assuming installed) the separation shouldn't be bad.

Seriously, the first clutch we did the largest percentage of time spent on any one thing was that separation.

+1 on the separation. I wont say how long it took us, but probably 4 hours was spent from the time everything was disconnected to the time the tranny was on the floor. We sucked, but got it done.

The trick we found after many phone calls:

We had the tranny halfway out but it was hung up BAD. We were told to put a jack under the front of the engine, I think we jacked on the oil pan, I cant remember. We jacked it up maybe 3 inches, didnt unbolt the motor mounts, just streched them, and it made everything line up and the tranny practically fell out.

If I had to do another one, I could od it in half the time. I wouldnt say it was an easy job like some people above said, but it is do-able. print off some directions online and go at it.

The directions I used said there was axle pins and there werent, there were clips.

And make sure you put the axles back in before you start filling the tranny again or you will be pouring expensive royal purple all over the floor, then have to roll around in it for the rest of the job cause its 1 am and you just dont care enough to clean it up. its tough to get tranny fluid out of your hair
