Default Strange "Pop" noise on shifting...

Hey guys, I'm fairly new to the STI scene. I had an 02 WRX about two years ago. Just sold my 300zx Twin Turbo for an STI and love every minute of it. I do miss the T-Tops however...

Anyways, I bought an 06 stock AW with 2600 miles. I am having a strange noise however. When I push the car just a little, shift at say 5k, when I push the clutch in, and consequently let off the gas, there is a decently loud "pop" coming from under the car. You can feel it sligtly. It does it usually in first or second gear, only if I push it a little. It is definatly not the blow off valve (as that is usually a "woosh"). Could it be the car is backfiring on shifting? Maybe drivetrain noise? Any help would be greatly appreciated...I wish to solve this before I install my accessport which may void the warranty.

Sounds like that famous "klunk". Only when shifting hard, right? They have the klunk killer for that. Check out turninconcepts.com if it bothers you.

No no it only happens the moment I push the clutch in, not when I shift hard. I can feel it through the clutch pedal mostly. I should probably just take it to the dealer...

Yah take it to the dealer and have them look at it. Your rear diff may be making that popping noise.....hard to say.

if you have an 06 and plastic engine mounts, check to see if they're gone

That's what I would suggest too, especially if it happens all the time. Also, someone else here just had a similar clunk problem that turned out to be a bracket near the downpipe that was allowing the exhaust to contact the car, resulting in a thunk.
