i'm going to buy a new axle back
I'm not (yet) interested in performance gains
help me decide which is right for me
I don't want an exhaust that drones loudly in the cabin at freeway speeds
I don't want an exhaust that scores me a "reckless driving" ticket if I mistakenly floor it at an inopportune time.
I don't want an exhaust that pisses off the neighbors

I want an exhaust that I can hear and that sounds low and rumbly and lovely. i love the scoobysport sound but i worry it is too loud for me. the examples I've heard are catless though, so i'm unable to compare apples to apples. same with the prodrive.

eventually I'll go turbo back, if the axle back I choose now is too loud then, I'll sell it and get something else.

I once saw a chart that had dB levels for many of the aftermarket exhausts. anyone know where that was? I've also searched for some additional sound clips and haven't come up with much.

any reviews from owners? thoughts?
thanks

Default Apexi Intake - Install, Review, and Group BUY!!

I've got the Scoobysport, and I love it. I don't hear enough of a highway drone to bother me. If the stereo is off, I want to hear the engine/exhaust, and if the stereo is on, I rarely hear it. Don't know what kind of exhaust noise translates to reckless driving in your neck o' the woods, but around here, pretty much anything goes.

I've heard the Prodrive sounds nice and isn't as loud as the Scoobysport, so that might be better for you.

you wouldn't happen to have any audio or video clips of your setup?

rallyperformance.com has a link to:

(which you should save as SCOOBYSWEET.wmv)

This is a WRX, with "uppipe, downpipe, and cat back (factory third cat remains)". I don't think mine is quite this loud.

I just installed a prodrive two weeks ago, and love it. There is no drone while highway cruising (50mph to 1xxmph). The sound is deeper than stock, noticeable, but not loud. I kept my stereo off for the first week just to enjoy the new noise.

Vermontster - was your Prodrive muffler something you had lying around or did you order it specifically for your STi??? Is it round or oval tip? I'm awaiting delivery on one and am VERY curious what might be coming my way soon. Any info is much appreciated!

I bought it from another member, it's the oval tip (I was looking for an oval, didn't like the round)

ok, i got the Prodrive axle back installed last night. i took a before and after video clip with my little digital camera. the video DID NOT turn out

install was a snap, two bolts, 3 hangers. i recommend having someone there helping hold the mufler up while you struggle with the hangers. I did it on my own and it wasn't fun.

review: basically, the unit is maybe 20% louder than stock, and a lot deeper in tone. it sounds good I wish it were a little louder in the cabin, but then it'd be too loud on the street for me... so, i'll wait for Prodrive's "power package" and add a down pipe with some high-flow cats, liven up the sound some more then.

The round tip is fine, looks very close to stock. the canister is a lot smaller and a lot lighter than stock.

Thanks Jamie (subiegal) at Allsubaru.com for getting me the local hook-up.
