Default rear diff light came on

today i was driving down an interstate in sixth gear going about 60mph at about 3000 rpm. While driving my sti down the interstate it started losing power back and fourth really quick for about 15 seconds then it finally shut off. I pulled off the road and looked at my dash and saw the rear diff temp light on. I pulled out my manual and read what it said , then I had to call for a tow truck. has anyone else had this happen to them and what did you do

Are ALL your tires roughly the same size? Also look to see if the diff connector IS connected.
