Default '07 Tranny Swap Into An '05

I have a friend that asked me whether the '07 transmission with its longer 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears could be swapped into an '05 STi. I didn't have an answer for him, but I thought maybe this group might?

Is this a direct plug and play swap?

Thanks!

Gary

I had researched that previous thread this morning. It is in fact one to which I had contributed.

But nowhere in that thread did I find any discussion of whether or not the actual transmissions could be swapped. There a very short discussion of swapping gear sets. But no discussion of switching the whole unit.

I am sure the transmissions can be swapped but as far purchasing one from the factory I have heard they are anywhere from 8-11K . The swap should be plug-in-play to answer your question.

IDK about that, the DCCD is different from 06 on and they also got the yaw sensor and maybe more but I cant remember for sure. Mechanically it should be a near direct swap, but electronically I bet you will also need the DCCD controller, yaw sensor and any accompanying harnesses.

EDIT: They are VERY expensive from the factory though, either buy a gearset or buy a wrecked car trans. Also, seeing as the 05 is a 35/65 center diff gearing and the 06+ is 41/59 you may need 07 gears for your rear diff as it would change your final drive ratio.

And since the 07 yaw sensors were brought up, would the 07 ECU need to be part of that equation for a tranny swap?

if you were to do it, you'd want to do the full driveline (tranny and rear diff).

unless you're willing to open up the 6 speed  which requires alot of work to get back together btw.

our resident (even though he just moved to mobile, AL) just went through the school on the 6-speed, and some of those bolts for reassembly require a 3 foot steel pole to get the right torque spec

i don't plan on tearing apart a 6-speed any time soon

plus you would require a new rear diff with 3.54 ratio

I'd go with the gearset(economical) or the full drivetrain(not economical).

Id agree that the DCCD would need to be swapped as mentioned, i believe that with the yaw sensors, there is also a steering angle input as well. i could see this being a limiting factor for a daily driver.

Thanks for the input. I'll pass this along to my buddy.
