| Silver Member | btw def better throttle response. you MUST wrap the filter in a clean dry towel for 3-4 days prior to install as the oil the factory puts on is a bit GOOPY and will maybe foul your hot wire .. the towel lets the filter loose the excess oil then your fine do the same when re cleaning and re oiling as well s=man |

| Lurker | I had an K&N filter in my stock airbox, I did not notice a change in performance. Althought I found that the car would rev faster and easier which to me is not an upgrade in performance because the car revs but still moving the same speed. So I put back the stock filter. Well hopefully it works out for you. |

Completely remove the stock air scoop, silener, and the bottom of the stock air box. Then screw the filter (on the rubber edges) directly to the stock box lid. Then run 1 screw through the top and front edge of the lid (diagonally) and into the fender wall to secure it. It is basically a way to turn a drop in filter into a mock short ram intake-most of the SR benefit @ 20% of the cost. I know no one believes me, but it sounds and runs incredible like this. It's like a jet-I love it! | |

| Senior STI Driver | I'm using the K&N with stock airbox (removed resonator though). No noticable performance difference, but it's worth the money since you can clean it forever and don't have to buy paper elements. I've run K&N filters on my last 8 vehicles with never a problem. |

IWSTI Addict since: Mar 2004 Trader Rating: (0) | I had one in my WRX for about a year before I bought a FMIC and had no prblems with it. Never noticed any performance increase with it though. But as zimm said, it is worth it because you never have to buy another filter again. Do be careful (that towel idea might not be a bad idea) about excessive oiling of the filter when new and after cleaning. I have heard reports of the MAF getting screwy because of oil buildup on it.
