I went to the local dealer the other day to get the two crush washers for the TWO drain plugs on the tranny. The parts guy and mechanic looked at me funny that I asked for both drain plugs. come to find out the dealr only has only ever pulled the one plug(the large one) according to there computer they have never stocked the small of the two crush washers. I know when I drained my tranny a good bit came out of the lower one after the larger one was removed. That is why I do eveything my self. This ad is not endorsed by this member. IWSTI Addict since: Nov 2005 Trader Rating: (92) | hmm, my shifter is quite a bit stiffer to shift than my brothers with the original fluid still in it. This may be attributed to the Motul fluid, but I can't say because it was just installed so i have nothing ever to compare it to |

IWSTI Addict since: Dec 2007 Trader Rating: (0) | I've been following this thread with interest because my new 08 STI grinds sporadically shifting from 3rd to 4th. Has a little over 800 miles now; started at about 500, but only once or twice a day. Can't make it happen. (I started a thread on this -- New 08 STI: Occasional 4th Gear Grind... -- but it didn't generate much interest.) Subaru customer support opened a case number for me, and I took the car into the dealer yesterday. Although (not surprisingly) they couldn't duplicate the problem (neither can I; it just happens every now and then), they were familiar with it, having had something at least similar on another 08 STI they sold and also had heard of it otherwise. They had apparently fixed the earlier one by replacing the gear oil with what described as a special Subaru oil. I was so sure that this was going to be the Extra-S that's been discussed here that I didn't nail it down, but in the event what they added was what seems to be yet another Subaru oil: SOA635011 Transaxl Lub Non Jus Does anyone know what this is? Is a "Transaxl Lub" a gear oil at all? By the way, can't recall if someone has provided this, but if not and if anyone is interested, the Subaru part no. for the 75W-90 Extra-S is K0322AA093. Anyway, I picked up the car at closing time and, wouldn't you know it?, had one of my daily 3rd-4th grinds on the way home last night. On the other hand I haven't had any since then, and I've shifted from 3rd to 4th 45 times today (yes, I'm counting!). I guess I'll wait to see if the grind returns. If it does I'll take it back and see if they'll add the Extra-S. Subaru covered the cost of the first replacement, and I hope and assume they'll cover it if the "Transaxl Lub" is not Extra-S and it has to be added. Any thoughts? |

IWSTI Addict since: Dec 2007 Trader Rating: (0) | P.S. According to the service tech at my dealer who I just checked with, the stuff they put in -- SOA635011 Transaxl Lub Non Jus -- is Extra-S, maybe in a different container or something else different enough to have a different part number. Knock on wood, I haven't had a grind today yet, so maybe it'll work.... |

IWSTI Addict since: Aug 2005 Trader Rating: (3) | here is a great thread to read over on the nastisock. Bartender: One Scotty's ****tail please. - NASIOC the USC is not good for the trans but toward the end of the post there is some great discussion on different flids and how they effect the trans. IIRC Andrew tech and DS1 both rebuild lots of tranny's and both reccomend the motul gear 300 or Valvoline Syn 75w90 i have been running the 75w90 in the swapped GC and have no complaints. however i have only driven it for a few hundred miles. |

| Silver Member | no dice for me it seems, still grinding with the motul, any last ditch additives to throw a quart or so of in? It actually seems as though 5th may have gotten a bit better, but 6th still grinding. This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. |
