IWSTI Addict since: Nov 2005 Trader Rating: (92) | Clint, please prepare 5 bottles of the Motul 300, and however many bottles of the PA90 r.diff fluid are needed. I'll be including this when I order the 6spd shifter parts & coilovers. I'll be including my review on these fluids after my swap is complete |

IWSTI Addict since: Apr 2006 Trader Rating: (0) | wish i had read this in the summer basically subaru canada said my tranny was toast and i needed to spend 6G coz my driveshaft caused the problem. BS I said...i had a feeling it was this "cool aid mix" crap that maybe good for non dccd trannies. Anyways I put some RL lightweight shockproof (cant rem exact name) and some motul PA for the rear diff and ALL my problems disappeared INSTANTLY. Next time around gonna put motul pa in the rear diff & 300 in the tranny. I |

| Junior STI Driver | i'm trying to fix my 5th gear grind for my 05 6spd...4th going into 5th above 3000rpm = grind, 6th to 5th with rev-matching = no grind... anyways, i'm tempted to give the motul 300 a try, but i've also read good things about: 1) adding a quart or so of synchromesh - but the GM stuff isn't gl-5, it that harmful for the tranny? even just a quart of it? 2) some people ran the redline lightweight shockproof and claimed magical results, but some places said the redline isn't appropriate for the subaru 6spd for reasons i can't recall right now... help guys!! tia |

| Authorized Vendor | We had a 4th gear grind before trying the fluid that is now mostly gone. We added the fluid probably 10000 - 15000 miles ago and the condition of the grind has not gotten worse. It definitely has helped in our case. Tony |

IWSTI Addict since: Jan 2008 Trader Rating: (1) | This thread made me want to change my fluids, good job guys! I know I need 5 liters of the Motul Gear 300, but how much Motul PA90 do I need for my rear diff? Did a quick search but found nothing ![]() Thanks! Just found my own answer! ![]() For the others... Tranny takes a little over 4 liters, so you will need 5 liters of fluid. The rear diff takes about 1 liter, but they sell it in a 2 liter jug most times. Last edited by wdb; 02-24-2008 at 09:12 PM. |

IWSTI Addict since: Jan 2007 Trader Rating: (0) | I have had very bad luck with Royal purple gear oil in my tC and have been having the same problem as clint but mine has been goin on for some time. Never thoght it could be the gear oil. My friend boostpimp told me about this post and about the gear oil. I read a couple pages of this thread and am very satisfied ith the finds. So I as well will be changeing my gear oil over to motul 300 in my Scion tC 5 SPD M/T. |

IWSTI Addict since: Apr 2004 Trader Rating: (0) | When I hit 20K on the OD (maybe 6 months ago) I changed out my Tranny fluid using the Valvoline 75W90 dino oil... I noticed a difference shortly thereafter, and it wasn't good. I started getting the high rpm synchro problem when shifting from 4th to 5th that MANY people complain about. At first I panicked thinking that my synchro was going, but then recently read about using a mix of the above fluid plus 1 liter of Penzoil's Synchromesh (basically just a friction modifier). So I replaced 1 liter this past weekend and wouldn't you know it, problem solved. Anyway, just pointing out another viable option for folks not wanting to spend the big bucks on fluid. g |
