See if you can get the 2007 gears installed instead. 1/4 mile with one less shift FTW.

If I were in your shoes, and I may be pretty soon if I do a 20g swap, I'd take your 1500 you are going to pay for a replacement with the dealer and invest in a set of STi RA gears. There was a vendor on here that is doing a screaming deal right now. You have a WRX right? not an STi?

+1^....the dealer can choose to void the warranty and deny the claim for abuse! I would take the offer and run away extremely happy that it didn't cost me the full $1500. The dealer is the agent for Subie and makes the decision for them. If the Subie rep saw the trans, I bet he/she would deny the claim. Be happy they Subie/dealer are even participating!

You should be happy and just take what dealer has offer you (50/50). Most places don't cover mis-shift.

Wow, this is the very first time I've ever heard of anybody actually breaking a gear in an STi six speed.

I did the same thing once on a road course, I was coming out of a corner and went from third to fourth, and hit second. Thankfully I didn't let the clutch out very quick and it went back in immediately when I sensed danger (revs *rising* on upshift).

Doh! That explains a couple of things... like why it broke, and why it can be fixed for cheap (relative to STi gearbox).

Still glad to see that the dealership is working with you on this. Huge +1 for them.

haha well im getting ass raped more now. they replaced 2nd gear, took it out for a test drive, and now 3rd and 5th gear are scratching so now they want to replace 3rd and 5th gear/synchros. and adding another 400$ to my bill. so now the total to fix is 1,050.97$
what a great new year.
