Default Good DD clutch for big HP STI?

I have a Tilton Twin and I need something a little more wife friendly. I've been reading about Kevlar single discs and ACTs.

Anyone have a suggestion for a car that make 500whp/tq?

You're going to have a hard time finding a single disk that will take that torque, let alone be wife friendly, and last a decent amount of time. You may have exceeded the WAT (Wifey allowable tolerance) on this one.

There is another post by majin down below recommending the RPS Max Series with the street disc and resurfaced wtock flywheel that is capable of holding 500 ft/lbs and still feels like stock. Check it.

the RPS is good to 600 tq, but you will have to let them know that at the time of your order. they make them 500 tq hold if you don't specify - single disc, and stock like feel. best clutch hands down.

those rating arent WTQ tho...right?? thats what i was told...if you have 572whp and similar torque, your gonna need something rating ATLEAST 700tq unless not planning on agressively driving ATALL...ive never seen a streetdisc or similar stock feel handle that much that is gonna be wife friendly...like TIC said you def passed the WAT...lol...how does she like it??i couldnt imagine my girl driving something with that much power, she thinks mines crazy with only 332whp/tq.

an act 6 puck unsprung will hold the power, and it's pretty friendly to drive. best bang for the buck clutch imo, around $499.

RPS 6 puck. It's what brucechapman uses and it takes a little getting used to but you could use it for a daily driver no problem (and the pedal pressure isn't much higher than stock so your wife could use it).

Based on discussions with MZM and TopSpeed, ACT is the recommended clutch. They tell that it'll hold my power with no issues. They told me not to slip the clutch, because I would wear it out. I had one in my Evo and I was happy with it.

rps and act clutches offer equivelent performance. i have an rps 6 puck. pessure is about stock. it is a little grabby as you would expect any clutch suited to these power levels.

The ACT 6-puck drives decently. Nowhere near the smoothness of the ACT street disc, but fairly decent for a big-power clutch. It will hold 450-500whp fine, and it is much cheaper than the RPS. We're doing a combo with our flywheel for almost half the price of the Exedy twin. If you're 20G or FP green territory though, I'd stay with the ACT Street disc combo.

Cheers,

Gary

With all due respect Gary, there is no way the ACT clutch is as smooth as the RPS. The RPS system has ACT beat in stock pedal feel and engagement.

I have felt them both, and the ACT is very far from stock pedal feel. The spring force in the pedal makes it feel cheap (in my opinion) compared to the stock pedal feel (and subsequently the RPS feel - which is VERY stock like).

Also, the ACT clutch is very "springy" on the release of the pedal, causing you to get used to driving with that clutch all over again otherwise you engage the gear very harshly and look like a n00b stick driver like in high school.

I felt the need to have to refute your post being that I just saw you post an ad for the ACT clutch. Coincidence?

I agree, the RPS sport-series 6-puck clutch has a much lighter pedal feel (never said it didn't) compared to the ACT. It's also rated at over 200ft/lbs less than the ACT 6-puck. For the RPS extreme series clutch which is rated at about the same torque levels (600ft/lbs) as the ACT, the engagement is comparable to the ACT. Considering the ACT costs less, I personally feel the ACT system makes a bit more sense.

Cheers,

Gary
